You'll get like 3hp and 5tq...not worth the monumental effort of pulling the head and bottom end apart.

Yes do it.. It will make a bigger difference when you upgrade your cams and intake manifold.

Or get pistons that are actually worth the swap (like JE 12.3:1's or something) instead of going from, what? 10.0 to 10.8?

Get B16A pistons or JDM B16A or ITR pistons.

The USDM ITR pistons don't have as high of a dome as the B16A and JDM pistons.

the CTR pistons have the highest compression of all b-series pistons

here is the compressions of each piston, what the piston is and what engine they
come out of.....all are in descending order

piston code.....compression(cc's of displacement...higher the number the higherthe compression)....block code.....origin

pct..8.63..B16B..JDM
p30..6.93..B16A..JDM
pr3..6.01..B16A..USDM
p73-00..5.96..B18C(5)..JDM
p73-A0..3.64..B18C5..USDM
p72-00..2.52..B18C(1)..JDM
p61..0.00..B17A..USDM
p72-A0..-0.60..B18C1..USDM
pr4..-3.20..B18A/B..USDM/JDM

all of those are listed in descending order from highest compression to
lowest

if you would like to play with compression variables and things like headgasket thickness
and other little things, go to this website and have a little fun with
"bench building"

compression calculator

first of all those cannot be the CR values of each piston, because you cannot determine CR by having the piston alone.

What those are listing are the values of the dome or dish in cc's. You would need to know the bore, stroke, combustion chamber volume, head gasket thickness, etc. etc. in order to get an actual CR ratio value.

Also CTR pistons on a GS-R engine is a big no-no IMO. the CR value jumps way the hell up to over 13:1, which is bad on the street with pump gas. It's also worse because the pistons are cast, and cast pistons will be damaged a lot easier when the engine detonates because of the high CR coupled with pump gas.

Bottom line?

JDM ITR pistons or B16A pistons will bump the Cr to reasonably high levels, and of course premium gas will be a must.

yeah.....I meant those number to be understood as the dish displcement of each piston.....not meant to be taken as the compression

oh and if you install pct pistons on a GSR with no modifications to the head and with a stock .030" headgasket you will have a static compression of about 12.1:1

Well even at 12:1Cr on cast pistons and pump gas, I'd not do it. When it comes time for me to ever build my B18C5, it'll get OE cast JDM ITR pistons and a thinner head gasket which will get me right at 11.5:1, which I believe to be about as high as I'd go on cast pistons.

with CORRECT tuning you can run compression on OEM internals I have seen compressions upwards of 13.2:1 running rather reliably

...and the first batch of bad gas you get and you're done.

We'll agree to disagree I suppose.

Exactly what I was going to suggest. B16 pistons are very cheap, and will push your compression up a little more than the ITR pistons. I'm using B16 pistons on my poormans ITR set up now.
