Default Making parts work together, 101

I've been looking around H-T without much success. I'm in the beginning stages of my all-motor build. I don't want to just throw parts at it and expect to run. What I'm looking for is a combination of parts that actually work together and will produce better results.

I'm basically looking for information on topics such as plenum length vs. piston speeds, lift & duration of cam vs. compression of piston, etc... If anyone could post information they know is accurate (no guessing here, please) or could link me to a write up of some sorts, that would be great. Thanks.

It doesn't really matter. I'm looking for general engine performance dynamics.

But if you must know. H22a, 230whp, OEM only block (type-s pistons).

are you dead set on using a h22 engine or are you open to a b series?

I have the h, i'm staying with it. But you guys are missing my point, i'm looking for knowledge of how engine components work together to assist each other in performance, not that skunk2 stg2 or toda b's work best on an lsvtec.

Knowlege like, and i'm just pulling this out of my ***.... a shorter, large intake plenum/runners works better for longer stroke motors, while a longer, more narrow plenum/runner works better for short stroke motors.

Get it now? Mostly I'm interested in cam theory and design, but general knowledge never hurt anyone.

There's a calculator that calculates ideal compression for your cam's ABDC valve closing degree.

http://www.rbracing-rsr.com/comprAdvHD.htm

compare it to stock. you want a cranking pressure of around 15-20% over stock.
