Default 1997 ITR#122 Gets Clifford G5 Alarm. (( Welcome 56K))

For a little piece of mind, and to help myself get a full nights rest, I took the Type R into Car Toys today and got a Clifford G5 Intelliguard 850 installed with Blackjax, wireless immobilizer, tilt sensor, hood pop, trunk pop, proximity sensors, omnisensor, digital self powered siren (making two total), and remote door locks.

Though this is a touchy subject with many, and has been an ongoing debate about security, I thought I'd post anyways. I'm hoping this will spark some of you to do the same. Even if this only motivates just one of you to do something more with your car, then I'm stoked. I really don't think that a person can't take too many safety precautions.

To date the security features of the car are the alarm and a manual kill switch to the fuel pump that I've cleverly hidden in the car.

Coming up soon will be the removal of the factory steering wheel which will be replaced with an aftermarket steering wheel and hub that will have the ability to lock. I'll have a full write up on the removal and installation, with pictures.

Please secure your R's so we dont get anymore horror stories on this forum.

Good setup. Mine is very very similar. BTW blackjax saved my car twice before. Good luck.

Opie,

That's good to know. I already feel good about the purchase, hearing this from you. I think it's the best $900.00 I've spent on the car.

The alarm, if you look at it by the numbers, is a lot of money for 'something'. However, how much are you willing to spend to replace your car and everything you put into it. All the money, parts, sweat, blood, and the memories?

Because I have already driven this car almost 4000 miles across the country, slept in it, ate nasty truck stop food in it...I feel I know it on a more intimate level. Hell in three weeks, it's going to travel another 3800 miles to rejoin me in Hawaii. I don't want some cracked up theif taking all of that from me.

Every littel bit helps. That sounds like a pretty substantial alarm.

Same question. I'm looking too. Clifford is said to be one the best.

the blackjax, when activated, requires you to enter a code via the keypad within 1 minute of starting the car. if that does not occur the next time the car drops below a certain speed it will turn the car off, will not allow it to restart and activate the alarm.

i've had mine for over 4 years with no problems, hell the key fob battery is going strong. i know of a few cars that would have been stolen if not for a clifford alarm.

Clifford is top-notch. Even if you already have an alarm, you can add the BlackJax since it's available as a standalone unit.

A friend of mine's car was saved from theft by the BlackJax...great product.

Any retailer that sales or installs clifford alarms, has the system. You can change the code to any series of buttion code that you want. Just don't forget, because you would have to send the unit back to Clifford to be reset.

I like it, I've driven the car around to see what it does when the code is not activated. The car dies, cannot be restarted and the alarm goes off and cannot be shut off without the remote. Since I was getting the alarm put in, I paid $35.00 for the Blackjax. A very good $35.00 spent.

Why get a fancy alarm and then advertise on the window you have it?

its like a message to the thief what he needs to get past.

I got a quote from a local shop of $1000 for labor to install the g5. That doesnt include the alarm. I am not down with spending 2g's for an alarm, there is other decent options out there.

I still dont understand why people don't just unhook the silver tab on the stock handles.

If the thief is trying to use that method to get into ur car, at least you would make them waste time if they saw it and tried to pick it. But with no silver tabs it lets them know that they need to use something else. So instead of making them waste 20 secs, you make them waste 2 secs. Seems kinda dumb to me.
