Hey guys...gals!
I just bought some new rims and tires (yokohama avs es100's 205/45/16) for my 94 gsr. When i hit a dip or a nice bump in the road, i can feel/hear that my tire has rubbed against my fender liner and against some metal. I stopped, turned the wheel and investigated and seen where the fender liner has completely worn off and metal is exposed from the fender. (this metal is starting to slice my new tires!) My question is, those who have had the same problems running 16-18's on their tegs, what have you done to eliminate this? And no, i dont want to raise my teg!
ps. please no dumb remarks, comments, post ******, etc. Helpfull feedback and suggestions only wanted and appreciated.

its not the edges of my tires/fender that is rubbing so I dont need to roll the edge of the fender. Its rubbing in the middle of my tire.
the rim is 16x7 40 offset.
i wanted to wait and do a photo shoot of my car with the new wheels..but i'll snap some quick pics tomorrow of what it looks like and what it has done to my tire so far.

did you read his above post?
so it's wearing away the fender liner up at the very top inside, and that seam inside the fender is cutting the tires?
dang dude I dunno, my springs are so stiff my tires don't come anywhere near the fender liner, and my car is lowered probably 3.5".

Its actually rubbing in the fenderwell...and theres actually pretty sharp edge there that can actually shred ur tires as u hit a deep pothole...im running with 18' and what i did was...take that fender liner off and cut those metal piece with some dremmel...it works really good but then the problem is when u take ur fender liner off...u will hear all this noise coming from the fender...to me its kind of annoying so i ended up buying a new fender liner and raise the car up a little bit...

i had that same problem with my teg. just take the wheel off, jack the car up, take a big face hammer and beat that ridge in the middle flat against the inside. that saved my tires.
I haven't had this personally happen, but people that I know that have dealt with this have tried either cutting out the area that causes the rubbing, or hammering/bending it so that it doesn't do it anymore. Car looks real sick btw
AOIFormula has the same wheels.. forgot what it was called. looks nice on your car though.. i had the same problem as you, but i was rolling on stock black wheels... didn't even lower the car that much. but now i have some 16"s and no rubbage at all. well i've only had it for about 2 weeks and havent noticed any yet. oh yeah, forgot to mention that after i got my shocks, i had no more rubbing.
You have to file down that ridge (sharp edge) up inside the fender well or bang the sh*t out of it with a hammer. Mine had ripped the wheel well plastic liner and was sticking out through the liner. That's how I found out what was causing it. I had a cut down the middle of my new Falken Azenis. It happened everytime I went over large bumps or or dips on the street and when auto-xing on uneven rough lots.
Your car is actually lower than mine and pretty low for my standards. Your car is lowered at least 3". Mine is 2.5".
I aslo had 205-15's when this began to happen to me but it only started when I noticed my aftermarket adj. shocks started deteriorating and weren't damping my 650lb springs they way they did before. Raising the car 1/4" should eliminate the problem. This could be an indication that your shocks are going or they don't have enough damping (bump/compression) and they could be riding on the bumpstops. I put my old Konis back on the car after sending them out to be rebuilt and revalved. I no longer have the problem.
It was my failing shocks that was causing it. Again a simple and cheap solution like others said is to beat the crap out of that sharp metal ridge inside the wheel well (at the top) with a hammer, file it down as much as you can, or raise the car a little.

Maybe your springs are way too soft. I have had my tires tucked all the way around with no rubbing at all until I got my Azenis. Just take a hammer to the inside.

well, my suspension is still pretty good. I'm rollin on tokico illuminas (set to #3 in front and #4 in the rear), with skunk2 coilovers. I also have a bunch of sway bars, tie bars, strut bars etc but that really doesnt effect the ride quality going straight. Could be that my passenger side shock is starting to take a dump on me since its only happening on that side.
This is the first set of 16's that has rubbed also. I've ridden on 4 other sets of 16's, 3 sets of 17's, and a bunch of 15" wheels in the past. only 1 set of the 17's rubbed like this. I'll try hammering and bending the hell out of that piece of metal. If it still continues to hit and do damage to my tire..then i have no choice but to raise the car and start lookin for TEIN suspension
thanks for the reponses so far guys!

You guys must be running some soft@$$ suspension or something, because my car is this low and it never rubs anywhere on anything:

after riding in friends' cars with tein ss and the ha's........I was definately impressed! I've ridden in cars with koni yellows and ground controls which still wasnt bad at all either! But i'm pretty much sold on tein suspension unless i find a set of koni yellows and gc's for a good deal!

Your rollin on stock 15's. I've had my car on the lowest perch setting on my coilovers and it didnt rub at all when I was on 15's too..only thing rubbing was the bottom of my car when i went over speed bumps! LOL btw, i see you got your front end color matched finallY! i liked it better when you were sportin the black front end

I wouldn't get the SS unless the car is daily driven only with no auto-x or track time. The rates aren't very stiff at all. I'd get Koni/GC over those any day. I'm just stating my opinion and experiences. Sorry if you didn't want them.

well, unless you plan on buying used Tein suspension, a Koni/GC setup with your choice of spring lengths and spring rates is pretty much always going to be cheaper than Tein, except maybe the most basic entry-level Tein setup, but Koni/GC is probably better than that anyway.
You say you're running 205/45-16, well that's pretty much the same diameter as stock 15" tires, so tire size should not be an issue.
