Default B16 swap vs turbo d

I currently have a d15b7, I dont want to waste my time turboing it.
I know the basics about turbos but lack the fuel management knowledge and dont feel comfy yet turboing the car.

I was thinking about a SiR I swap. About 1500 complete from hmotors.
Besides the cable to hydro conversion. What else would I need? Ive tried searching and couldnt find for a EG swap, SIR 1.

Cost wise I am figuring out which would be cheaper.
IF I turbo I would need a d16, y8 or z6, problem is they are hard to find with low miles. Reliability is also an issue.

Which would be better cost/reliabliity wise. Turbo d16 or b16? Please make constructive suggestions, please no SEARCH comments.

The d turbo will kill the b16. Bith can be equally reliable. The b16 swap will be cheaper and weaker.

Actually let me rephrase that. I f you had a d/t with the reliability of a stock b16 it's probably going to cost more than the swap but will have more power.

the b16 swap will be more expensive and slower. More reliable though.

there is no replacement for displacement.. Also the b16 flows a hell of a lot better than that little 1.5

Id got with the swap and then save for the turbo

The D turbo can be super reliable, tune it well. I am about to install a turbo kit on my 1.5 that cost under $500, get a B for that.

My friend put a greddy kit on his turbo d. Greddy kit + BOV + Uberdata @ 10psi on his hatch is ******* quick. It will embarrass most swaps. 25k miles on the b7 so far as well.

ummm... the d15b7 has even thinner rods than the z6. IMHO, upgrade the internals of the d15 if youre going to keep it.

The D15 also has 20 less horsepower stock than the Z6, theoretically, it can take the same amount of boost because it will have less horsepower.

Building a d15b7 isnt worth time or effort. Its ahrd to find internals for cheap.

Matt, what did you mean by 25K on b7 as well? Also how much total did your buddy spend on his turbo? My total budget is around 1500-1800.

Finally boosting a d would cost the same as a b, but the difference being a d16 is much cheaper than a b16 if it blows!

If you are gonna boost a d-series boost a zc thats what i am doin sense i crack a sleeve, i am just putting all my forged internals in the zc....you will still have a d-series but it will still be a duel cam....if you are interested my friend has a spare zc he will sell for cheap and it runs....

duel cam... so z6 can make just as much or more.

A z6 will also probably cost as much as a zc....if you tune the zc right with high comp and low boost you can probably get more power....

Anything can make any amount of power, ZC's arent high compression stock. You can make a budget D kit for well under $1000, try even coming close to a B swap for that kind of money. Boosted D is faster, cheaper and cheaper to fix IF it blows. Tune it right and it will be just as reliable as anything else.

yeah a d turbo would destroy that b16
even if you just turbo'd your d15b7(I'd highly recommend finding a z6 transmission though,
I dont buy that "longer gears are good for boost" bullshit".

Thing is, just look at some turbo d dyno plots vs some n/a b dyno plots, look at the torque numbers,
even the b18's just arent even close.

i've seen turbo d's making more torque than HP even.

and usually you'll be seeing 150-190whp at 7-9psi..
thats safe.. and when you think about the fact a b18c5 only makes around .. what.. 180whp 120wtq ?

why would you want a measly b16?

I say go with the b16, it has way more potential if you ever want more power which you probally will.
