Default Hood Clearance Problems

I've got an '88 CRX with a b18c5 and my new cf hood isn't quite fitting over the engine...., does anyone know of a hood that will fit? perhaps a massive bulge in it, or something of the sort, I really don't want to be cutting up my CF hood... I might just go back to the basically skinned hood I had on before it that has a couple blemishes

What motor mounts did you use? The last time I did a B18C5 swap in a CRX we used Hasport mounts and still had to cut the hood webbing.

Fiber Images makes a USDM SIR style hood that will clear any b series with any mounts.

VIS might make one too, but i would rather buy FI than VIS.

rather cut the webbing its cheaper and can be done nice so it doesn't look horrible every time you open the hood. cutting wheel and some power....

Quoted from my site.

There are a few options here. You can get a sir front end conversion, sir style hood for usdm front ends, or just cut your stock one. Thats what I did, I cut 2 "ribs" out of the hood on the driver side, above the valve cover.

ya if your using the USDM hood, it will rub in a few spots. but if you get the jdm "style" with the cowl bulging up rather than dipping down, it should clear. i have a 91 with an ls/vtec and VIS SIR style hood and it clears with no problems.

Would a ZC hood work? I have a couple to sell and since you are in Austin, I will be down that way October 9-10 for the meet in San Antonio. I could bring them down. They are pretty banged up because of the idiots who ship them from Japan. I'd make you a great deal on one. You would need to get the dings and stuff out of it. I am having a shop do mine with the other front end repairs I need. You could see the results if you make the meet.

I don't think a ZC hood would work for the B18C5.

Why do you just put a few washers on the back of the hood hinge to raise that sucker up a little so it does clear??

It helps the engine bay cool better also, that is a 2 for one deal.

exactly what I did on my b18c swap...might was well try before you start cutting, hell it only costs about 50 cents and a .5 inch lift wont even be noticeable.

It allready is lifted for some reason, probably about .25 inches, but I'll go try putting some washers on and if that doesn't work it's cut time. by the way I'm currently using the VIS CF hood with the bulge in it

I didnt mention the washer alternative because my friend with a r engine did this, and to me it looked tacky. But function over fashion.

washer raised hood is used very often in japan to vent heat out of the engine bay.. its useful in cars like 240sx and RX7.. but i dont know if heat is a big issue in honda engine bays.. my crx has the smallest friggin radiator

When your EF is turbo, you need to vent as much hot air as possible.

Pretty sure the B18C5 sits higher up than the b16
