0.5 liter of oil during 30min track session - ok or not?
As the title says, I filled my 98 ITR to the top dot, made a 30min track session and ended with the oil level in the middle of the two dots on the dipstick. I assume that I burned 0.5 liter of oil, right? I have no leak. Isn't it too much?
Depends how long you were above 6000 rpm. Do you have a oil temp. meter?
Or oil cooler? 30 minutes non-stop will heat the oil to 160 deg. Celcius.

What brand, type (regular, blend, synthetic) and weight of oil?
Many of us in the US who have used Mobil 1 5w30 (full synthetic) have experienced burn off of oil during track days or over time with normal street driving. During a track day, losing a quart of oil is common.

During a weekend for me.
5 or 6 (25 to 30) min. sessions.
I will be switching to regular (non-synthetic) oil to see what changes come from it.

IMHO, although that might indicate a higher mileage motor or a developing problem that has yet to evince itself to the point that it actually requires service, that kind of consumption is not out of the question depending on how long you were in the upper reaches of the RPM band.
Most of us accept that some oil consumption on the track is normal.
You can lessen the consumption by experimenting with different weights, types and brands.
But don't panic.
That kind of consumption by itself doesn't necessarily indicate a problem that requires immediate attention, except of course that you will have to go to the track w/some extra oil.
Are there any other symptoms, or just that bit of oil consumption? How long does it take in your daily driving to loose 1/2 litre of oil?

I'd think if you are going to do a long session/weekend you'd prefer synthetic over regular dino oil for it's protective properties and peace of mind, imo.

Ahh. Now there's an argument that the HT ITR Forum could give you five or six pages about, easily.

note taken.
But the 73,000 miles that I have on my car have been with synthetic. The consumption has gotten slightly worse and "I" feel that a switch should be tried to see if the consumption on "my" car will change. I feel that there will be a change... but how much remains to be seen.
I flush both the engine and tranny fluids after each 'on-track' weekend so temperature break down is not as much of a worry.
If the consumption decreases I will be happy.. if it does not the head will come off this winter and new valve seals will be installed.
If the use of regular oil and the installation of new valve seals does not fix (severally limit) the oil consumption... new rings will be installed.
If that does not fix it... the car will be sold.

I burn a liter in a half hour at high g high speed tracks like seattle. At mission (much slower track) I go through a half liter in a half hour. Oil is a consumable.

This just lessened the consumption for me and it was on an almost brand new motor, maybe 10,000 miles. Mobil1 went through my car like turd through a goose. Tried 5 and 10/30 weight Castrol GTX and also the Castrol Syntec stuff. Still consumed just aboud half of the Mobil 1 loss.
When I switched to Agip racing formula full synthetic and changed the weight to 10w60 the consumption stopped dead.

One track session= 3/4 to one quart
1000 miles easy= up to one quart
1000 miles hard up to 2.5 quarts

But you're failing to tell them that you're at between 8k and redline constantly both on and off the track for all of those miles
You're not usin M1 are you?

Well most of the time off the track I can't buzz the motor due to the VERY bad syncros in the tranny
...
But I still keep the revs above 5500 for most of the time
And up untill yesterday I have been using M1. At autozone I picked up the wrong case of Oil... Semi syn Mobil 10/30
I guess I'll see if I can burn this stuff too

Since I have the car for about 2 months and mostly as a fun car, I really don't know
. Anyway, I drove about 250km (160miles) trip on a highway with constant 5000-6000rpm (keeping it lower than VTEC) and there was no consumption. The total length of the track session could be 60km (40miles) and 0.5 liter is gone
But I don't worry, this is my 4rd Honda, so I check the oil every week. So there is no problem for me.

I run Castrol GTX Dino 5w 30 and don't burn a drop. Bbasso as my witness at Expo I didn't burn a drop, and Chris N as my witness I was at 7,500 RPM and above for every second of every one of my sessions.

You have to watch the oil temp.
After 15 minutes track time, the oil in my car went to 130 deg C. Then it was burning oil, I could see the smoke coming out the exhaust. The oil was getting thinner and thinner.
If the oil temp is below 110 C, my car doesn't burn any oil, even at the track. But that's difficult because it's already at 110 C after 1 lap.
I use Castrol RS Syntec (made in UK) 10W-60 on the track.
On the street, I just use Castrol RS Syntec 0W-40.

Did the use of the 10w60 oil solve the problem? There are many 10w60 racing oils available in Europe, so I could probably choose one of them.

10W-60 is good for endurance races. Then you don't have to be afraid the oil is breaking down at high temps during long periods like 130 deg C.

VDO is a good one. Maybe they sell the sensors seperately. There are some German brands for meters. They are cheaper then those from Japan or USA.

It's probably leaking into your transmission. You should take it apart to check.
Just kidding, everyone burns oil at track sessions, I burned a quart in a weekend (4 hours?) with 5w30 Mobil1 on a bone stock ITR. I'm now at 15w50, turboed and maybe I burn about the same.
