Default fix it ticket for exaust

alright my friend just recieved a fix it ticket for his exaust the cop claimed it was over 90 decibles. that does not seem possible to me since the cop didint even test it. i was wondering if putting his silencer in would count as fixing it?

I live in San Diego too so I know how the whole exhaust fix it ticket thing works. Putting a silencer on isn't really fixing the problem in the cops eyes. To them your exhaust is illegally modified. So the best thing to do is put your stock exhaust back on. Once you got the stock one on, just go down to the police station and an officer will look at your car and sign off your ticket. After that you have to go down to the court house and pay a $10 fine. The fine is mainly just to pay for paper work and processing. I've gotten atleast 5 exhaust fix it tickets. After I got my ticket signed off and paid the fine I would just put my "loud" exhaust right back on.

Yeah its bullshit, I got an "Illegaly Modified Exhaust" ticket a few weeks ago at about 2am I suspect because the cop saw my car and figured I was young and drunk

But it was $102 and I do plan on going to court

actually you do not have to go thru the trouble of putting your stock exhaust back on...you can go to one of those stations where they test your exhaust's decibel level...if it is 95 and below your fine but if it is over i highly suggest you put on the silencer.

Isn't is legal to have a modified exhaust? I thought you are only supposed to make sure your exhaust is in the legal limit (measured in dB)?

its not illegal to modify your exhaust. Its only illegal if it is over 95 db.

I just read an article in some magazine about this but I forgot what the name of the magazine was. But no, putting on a silencer for it doens't mean it's fixed. You should go out and buy a dB meter and test it if it's over 95 dB. 95 dB is pretty freakin loud man. lol most of our exhaust systems aren't that loud. But if you test it and find that it's less than 95 dB, take it to court. No cop can tell you that it's over 95 dB by pure judgement. Good luck
