Default non detergent oil bad for cams?

I was at this place that sells and regrinds cams and they had a sign up that said non detergent oil is a camshaft killer. Why would this be? and if it is bad, is it okay to use for break in then switch back to detergent oil?

If it wasn't built in a clean room, you really want detergents. Otherwise all the dust is not going to get picked up by the oil.
