Default Is 190whp out of the question with stock cams and head?????

there has been much debate over which cams perform the best and which head is prefered. my goal is to hit 190whp. kenji, so he tells me, has a B18C5 with a stock head and 2001 ITR cams and makes 196whp (i saw his graph). from my experience, it is concluded that a lot of people DO NOT say everything that they have done to there car. i am the same way, depending on the jackass i am talking to, but am just curious to know if 190whp is at all possible with a COMPLETELY stock B18C5 head and cams. someone out there has to know something. thanks

jeff

People who dont tell the truth about their setup

As far as 190 whp...if youre talking about all motor....I think it would be damn hard. But hey, I guess anything is possible. what did u dyno at stock? But if youre talking anything goes..just slap on a turbo kiit and there ya go.

It depends on how strong your motor is out of the box. There are stock R's putting out as little as 155 whp, or as high as 168 or so. If you get a strong ITR and slap on one of those sweet custom header/exhaust setups, like SMS or Hy-Tech, get a good cold-air intake and maybe a larger TB, advance the timing, get a VAFC and adjust the air/fuel, you might get there.

Hell no 190 whp is not possible naturally aspirated with a completely "stock head". You are going to at least need higher compression pistons with those stock cams to even get close. If you eliminate that, no way. You couldn't get 196 whp out of just bolt-ons and tuning.

Dan got 188whp out of his with bolt ons and a Power FC... the dynograph is floating around somewhere... it's all in the tunning... and matching of the parts to work as a "system"...

With a stock itr head you can hit 190. with itr cams, no way.

For the record, Kenji doesn't have stock itr cams but you didn't hear that from me.

Look at what everybody has to do to hit 190 including me. takes patience, time, and most of all money.

No but my car had ITR cams. It had ITR pistons in a GSR block but it's the same difference 197@the wheels. Kenji Spec

190 is not out of the question. Kenji's car pulls hard, but I do believe it has aftermarket cams. Go forced induction, you'll be happier

I made over 200whp with stock head and toda cams.
I think with stock cams 190 MAY be possible, but you are REALLY REACHING at
that point....

I heard of a GSR making 190 whp with stock cams, but again, you never know that REALLY has ben done to the car......
190 whp for an average 165ish whp ITR sound possible with JDM header, cat, CAI, cam gears, VAFC, and higher compression.

...with the right bottom end under them, the ITR cams can make well over 200whp... expound on your statement a little there...

currently i have a B18C1 w/ 2001 ITR cams and USDM pistons w/ a mugen headgasket. i also have the ITR intake valves and valve train (except for porflow inner's). in all, i have 11:1:1 compression. is that enough compression you think. i have an AFC (the old school version also), DC JDM header and all the bolt ons

...if you have it port matched front to rear and at least 2.5"(3" is better) piping from the header back with all the bolt ons, proper tuning should get you there...

190 or more is definately possible with stock head and cams. All you need is more compression, 4-1 header with 2.5" collector, a good ecu program, fuel pressure regulator, cam gears, and a good amount of time on the dyno.

This setup has made 197 whp and 132 tq on my car:
JDM Mugen 4-1 header
Complete type r head milled 15 thousandths
single layer stock head gasket
test pipe with 2.25" cat back piping
aem cam gears
b&m fpr
B18C1 bottom end with us type r pistons.
P28 chipped with skunk program

One of my friends also made 188 whp and 134 tq with the same setup except he had an ls shortblock with type r pistons and a dc sports 4-1 header with the smaller collector and an ls throttle body..everything else was identical to my setup. so im sure he would have peaked over 190 with a bigger header and throttle body.

you could use over size ctr pistons and some good head work ! and run ctr intake and itr exhaust and reach 190 whp with no problem !
dyno tunning is a must to get the best out of the motor !
