Default Bent valves... how

I mildly built up my b18c1 head. Itr valves, valve springs , retainers. skunk2 stage 1 cams and skunk 2 cam gears. Been running it for about 4000 miles.

On the interstate I hit vtec and felt a hesitation, started to run poorly. Got it home and come to find out that I bent the drivers side exhaust valve on cyl #1.
Its not bent much, just barely. its .05 out of round now.

How is possible that I bent the valve at vtec crossover?

Your timing belt might have slipped and it was just coincidence that it happened during vtec crossover.
