It is probably in need of a good tuner.

yeah, theres definately something tuned incorrectly, but i also have to wonder, why stage THREE?

kinda foolish to spend so much money on a CTR engine if you are gonna mess with half of the **** in it anyways. just my 2cents..

I call BS on this. YOU know why his motor is only putting out 158hp is because Its probable fucked up. Now dont post up BS trying to make the b16b look bad and stop posting up your boys setup unless he asked you too.

he is under tuning.

get that poor engine on a dyno with some kind of fuel adjusting device (VAFC) immediatley. a "chipped ecu" is way too ******* generic for a large cam setup like that.

he obviously needs a tune.. you cant run a setup like that without exstensive tuning..

what compression would warrant stage 3 cams?

compression has almost no effect on anything to do with cam selection

really? doesn't the dynamic compresion go down because of the extra overlap of big cams which you counter with higher static compression? So some really agressive NA cams will make more power then stock or stg1 cams even with like 9.0:1 compression? forgive my ignorance but I have read the exact opposite of what you stated.

yes dynamic compression does change with overlap BUT static dosent. and im pretty sure the newbie asking dosent even know the difference let alone know how to choose the proper cams for a setup.

and a really agressive cam may not make you any power over a "stage 1" cam setup (wich i also find bullshit, stage 1 means nothing. give me lift, duration, centerlines, and overlap), you may loose power because the head can only flow so much air. ever used a flowbench? when you are trying to choose a cam/s you flow the head at specific valve lift points, at a certain point you reach max flow, if you go above max flow you loose flow because there is too much volume, not enough velocity. so when you flow the intake and exhaust ports you get an exact lift where you KNOW your engine will make the most power. from those flowbench numbers you can even estimate total engine horsepower potential within a couple actual hp. before ever building any engine you should flow your head(s) and build from around those numbers. flowbenches rule.

so in short static compression shouldnt play much of a role in cam selection, it should all be based on headflow numbers.

i hope that all made sense, its extremley hard to explain in 1 paragraph. i have pages of **** on this in my notbooks.

With all those parts he should be doing better so do a compression check. Oh and call me a *** again and we can have an old fashion snap session.
