Default water pump leaking - chevy astro

there seems to be water leaking from the water pump, like a steady stream. are water pumps suppose to have holes in them so when they fail, water leaks out? because it looks as if it's leaking from a hole on the bottom of the water pump, and the whole is meant to be there. has this ever happened to any of you?

Thats exactly what the hole is for. The seal inside the pump has failed.
