Default Convertible top hole :(

I tried to search for this topic, but had no luck. My '01 S2000 has a very small tear in the convertible top and it is growing larger every day. Does anyone have any suggestions for fixing it? It seems like a waste of money to get a whole new top for such a little hole.

Thanks guys!

where is the hole located?

reason I ask, there are a few wear spots that occur and I'm not sure if Honda is covering that or not due to a design defect. you should try searching on s2ki.com for more on this, but otherwise... expect to have it replaced. replacing the top isn't cheap. when I did mine, it was ~1600 (parts & labor).

Thankfully I have a Honda account and I work at a performance shop so the labor part would be cheap, but still not something that I want to spend money on right now. The hole is located in the back passenger corner. I have had problems with the convertible top before that weren't covered with my HondaCare warranty... blah. If there is not a patch kit or something like that out there I guess I will have to spring for the hardtop. I should have kept my Type R, this whole convertible thing is going to make me broke!

The labor on replacing the top is, IIRC, 16 hours. Even if you work for a shop or are the shop, it will still cost someone significant downtime.

If it is a wear spot, rather than just a hole, inquire and do some searches. As for patch kits, yes, there are some out there, just nothing I know of at the moment. I had to replace mine because of two cuts in the top where it was ripped open to strip the interior out.

unfortunately, this is a problem, but instead of spending a lot of time and $$$ replacing the top, an upholstry shop can repair it with a patch from the inside. It wont be too difficult.

I have a little rip on my top and so my friend patched it up. The patch was actually melted onto the convertible top to prevent future lecks and it also blended really well.
