Default car is eating a good amount of oil

i changed it about 2000km/s ago and already i'm down a little more than half a liter. it's most noticeable around the vtec engagement point. i get a series of loud clicks from the engine bay and i get a CEL 22 for vtec pressure switch.

so, now that i know i have a problem, what are the main things to check for?
i've scowered every inch of the engine bay; top and bottom and theres no oil leaking. the only thing i havent done is a compression test.

could i have a bad ring somewhere? the car still makes power and pulls hard so i dont think theres a problem with rings/pistons
am i missing something? would a bad head gasket cause the engine to eat oil??

well the CEL means you're low on oil...fill it back up and that will stop happening...it seems you already know the problem...

Is there smoke coming out of your exhaust? it's possible you could be losing some in blowby too.

Check your radiator fluid and see if there is any oil floating on the top.

Do a compression check or...

you need to look in the rear view mirror during a WOT run on a freeway on ramp or something. You won't really notice blue smoke at idle, but if it's a bad ring or something you'll see it at WOT.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by hott-nix &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">did a couple WOT runs with my g/f following me. she said there wasnt any smoke</TD></TR></TABLE>IF it's your intake valve stem seals, you'll get smoke on over-run. When you lift to shift, the intake ports see lots of vacuum, they'll smoke for a moment. Run up in 3rd gear, completely lift the gas pedal but don't disengage the clutch. Leaky intake valve seals will make smoke. (I'm not sure about a similar test for exhaust valve seals...)
