Big Difference, but it sucks try to drive everyday down the interstate at all most 5k rpm when you only doing about 70-75 mph!
As far as accelleration, you will like it!

In my opinion driving on the highway is not bad at all with the final drive. I guess it is just a matter of how much noise you mind. But it is definately worth it. One of the best modifications I have put on my car.
im making 234 whp and when i hut 3rd gear the car feels like i pulled a parachute.....i narrowed it down to
1- gearing)too long..thats why im gtetting 4.78)
2- insufficient spark ( oem igniton.not even cables)
3 suspension ( i got kyb agx and ground control **SKINNIES TOO**)
4- aerodynamics....considering rear duffuser......
i already got the 1st three lets hope that fixes that!!!!

with an si tranny(4.40fd), your car should not fall on its face. i don't thing that the gearring is your problem there, it might have been the cable or something else. with the 4.78 i have heard, of a drop of .2-.3 on your et. deffenetly use a rear diffuser if you can get it, that should also help you out with another .2. but do remember that if you go 4.78 on the fd, that every gear will get shorter. you will loose at least 500 rpm per gear, as well as the mph will come down per gear. to make up for this you'll need to up your rev limit, but if with the 4.40 you were finishing the1/4 in 4th now you'll finish it in 5th gear. good luck, hey did you find out if moroso will be open this saturday?

A big differences on a B16. Since the B16 lack of torque, the shorter final drive makes it up in alot of area.
If you got the $$$ and the time to do, highly recommand.

i had the same situation as far as a contemplation of gear swaps. what i did to test out the theory was i chnged from 24 inch slicks down to 20 inch basically changing my final drive ratio by the tire size. i did however have to use 5th in the 1/4 mile, my 60fts were faster but my mph dropped almost 5mph and went from 11.91 to 11.73.
so i changed the final drive and kept my 24 inch slicks and am not at 11.50s

i have the itr tranny with that final drive, and its not 5k at 75mph, its 80mph at 4.5kish, all the new s4 trannies off the si's have the same gearing as the jdm itr's, the lsd and final drive is what makes them different, you can notice the final drive in the freeway when cruising in 5th gear, you just can mash on the gas and go, i personally rarely downshift, i just mob it......

It may not be a good idea for someone who regularly goes highway speeds, its a lot more wear and tear on ur engine when u have to sustain it at a higher rpm

if you have the 4.78 itr tranny, you will cruise at 4500rpms at 80 mph. the 4.40 and the 4.78 itr trannies, do have a different 5th gear. in the 4.78 tranny, the 5th gear is from a gsr tranny 0.787. while in the 4.40, the fith is 0.848

Don't forget the JDM ITR 98 spec 4.79 tranny has a GSR 4th and 5th gear. At 70 mph it's like 3700-3800, about the same as B16.

Oh yes it does make a big difference. With 4.78 final drive ratio, you will exit a corner in a higher speed and G force.
