ls/vtec question
I've already searched through the 8 pages of lsvtec stuff in the archives but couldn't really find too much on my specific question.
I have a 95 coupe with a 2nd gen jdm b16a. Now i am building a lsvtec for a winter project.
My question is can i use any year b18a or b18b with my y21 b16 hydro tranny?
Also would i have clearance issues if i use my p30 pistons with crane stage 2 cams, the required dual valve springs, titaium retainers, and stock valves. These cams have a gross lift on the vtec lobe of 472. I should be ok....right?

Yes you can use b18a/b blocks. All b series trannies are interchangeable with b series motors, you just gotta match your chassis to cable or hydro tranny needs. If you are unsure of clearance issues go ahead and clay the motor. Sounds like a fun project bro but remember to do some extensive research in order to do it right.
thanks....i've been extensively (if thats a word) researching for weeks now.
Would it be ok to use a b18b block that had the timing belt break? I mean, when the timing belt breaks isn't it usually the head that gets damaged? Specifically the valves? Since i would be using my b16 head and pistons would there be a problem using an engine that the timing belt broke? Would any damage occur to the block?

So ur saying that the block may have been damaged?
I plan on taking the block to a machine shop, gettin the cylander walls honed and crankshaft balanced. Its just that i can get this engine from a wreckers for $350 (i am in canada so this is canadian). Other places charge $500 for a 91, $700 for a 95 and so on. I know you get what u pay for....learned that lesson many times. But i a plan on rebuilding would this be an ok candidate. I can also get a 91 minus the crankshaft for $100 privately, but he also can't guarantee the condition....plus i've tried to locate a crankshaft locally (from parts stores) and am not having very good luck....i know honda could get me one, but honda's prices are insane, especially up here in canada.
thanks again for your help.

Keep looking. I got a rebuilt 1990 B18A for 250 dollars. I know a place where I can get a complete 92 b18A for 150 dollars
(In Canadian dollars of course).
