Default Either 4th Gen or 5th Gen??????????????????

Sup,
I've been looking for a Prelude for a long time now. I really hope i find a 5th generation Prelude. I need something reliable and nice. I made into conclusion that the Prelude is my final choice. Being a full time student and a 25 hour per week employee i need something reliable. My budget is 7,500-8,000 dollars. Do you think i could find a reliable, good milage 5th gen Prelude? I do not care whether it is an SH, i've been stressed lately because i am not sure if i can buy that car if not, then i guess i might go for a 4th Generation Prelude. I know mostly about the 5th gen preludes, but the 4th gen Preludes have base and si..am i correct? What is the difference? I'm not too knowledged about the 4th generation Preludes. Do you think with my budget i will be able to find a 5th gen.? Anyone in the Dallas Area looking to sell a 5th gen for that budget?

Also people with Preludes, or know people with Preludes, can you list your experience with that car?

Thanks Alot

Also, what do you consider a good source to find used cars? I search http://www.autotrader.com every single day and i do look in http://www.cars.com. I search autotrader 1-2 times a day.

4th gens are--

S- F22 SOCH non-VTEC with 130 hp
Si- H23 DOHC non-VTEC with 160 hp
VTEC- H22 DOHC VTEC with 190-200 hp

I'm sure you could find either 4th or 5th for that price If you want low milage, look for a 5th...

If u are trying to find a cheaper prelude go for the 4th gen. More than likely u can find a 4th gen vtec with around 90-100k miles for that price range you stated.

LOL! If I drove it like an old guy I'm sure it would have been fine, but I used to race it like a bozo and blew the motor and have had to replace the axles twice...

If you just want a commuter car you'll be fine, it'll be very reliable, but if you want to have fun, it'll cost ya.

I don't really think you will find a SH for that price. Get a 94-95 VTEC

i paid 2000$ for my 92si h23 4ws lude.
they can be found for less then 5000$ and are pretty reliable cars. the only thing ive ever came across with the h23 is valve seals hardening. the block itself is tough as they make. also look on ebaymotors.com believe it or not there may very well be a nice prelude in your area that can be had a very resonable price. and if you dont believe it is possible, that is were i purchased mine (local seller).
jsut make sure you can go and take a look at it and give it the once over.

If you don't mind a drive or flight for pick up, check up on craigslist.org. I have seen plenty 5th gens up for 9k.

I'd recommend you definitely check ebay. I've also been looking for a 5th gen prelude and i've been wishing i lived in texas cuz a lot of the auctions i find are located there.

This is just a personal opinion of mine, but I would stay away from the 1997 Preludes. 1st model years always seem to have more problems then the following years.

I know the '97 SHs were more prone to ATTS failure, but then again...that could just be due to higher miles (average).

you should be able to find a 5th gen for that amount, the only question will be mileage and condition, and of course what you're willing to settle for. but if you really want to find a deal, as mentioned by someone before, you're lucky to find the best if you're willing to travel to pick the lude up.

i had to look for a few months before finding the right 5th gen - and to answer one the original posters questions - no problems with it so far.

blowing motor...
exactly how do you blow an engine? i don't have to much knowledge about cars....

-What happens when you rev too high..will it stay on the highest rev or will ur valves mess up right away?

-How do you determine the highest rev of your car?

Thanks

You'll Blow the welds on the intake...*roll eyes*....anybody remember that stupid quote?

On Topic:
Reving past the limit will cause your engine to drasticly heat up possebly leading to the destruction of your Drivetrain and/or your engine itself.
