Hey guys,

Just trying to figure out from your past experiences what
tires to go with. The tires will be a 205-50-15 size.
You can add you own choices, but I will start with a few.

950's are awesome tires, but they suck in the snow. I had a set of Sport A2's and I was unstoppable in both the wet and the snow.

As far as I know, Nokian WR is the only 4-season tire that actually has a SNOW rating. The 4-season rating simply means the rubber compound has a glass-transition temperature below freezing. It means nothing about the traction in snow.

205 is kinda wide if you're worried about snow. Narrower is better for snow. That's why I use 4-season tires in a narrower width during winter.

edit... oops. I didn't mean M&S, I meant the actual SNOW rating, whatever it's called, same as a full-blown snow tire.

Just about every tire that isn't meant for racing has an M&S rating. IMO it doesn't mean dick, just like UTQG ratings.

 

i live in iowa, nothing works. so i park it and drive a beaten up SUV in the winter. Life sucks when its 5 below zero

 

Did two winters in Iowa City w/ my lowered integra on Dunlop Sport 5000's in 205-50-15, zero problems getting around.

 

I'm investing in some dunlop 5000's, thank you, you just made my car mobile this winter....hopefully.

 

So long as you take it easy when it gets real snowy you won't have any problems - I never did.

 

Im sticking with the ziex. They are nice, cheap,handle well and are good in rain. Also you can hear them picking up stuff from the street LOL. SWEEEEEEEET. YOu can get them for $50 a piece at discounttiredirect.

 

I had the Ziexs on my old civic... they SUCK HORRIBLY in the snow. They were running a lil low on tread this last winter but it was to the point where i had to feather the throttle across intersections because i would spin them if I gave it any throttle... it was lame

No such thing as a "good" all-season tire.

When you try to compromise tire performance across multiple purposes, you end up with a tire that sucks at everything. If you want a tire that is remotely good for any particular purpose, you have to get a dedicated tire and sacrifice performance in other conditions.

So, to answer your question, it doesn't matter which one you choose because they all suck.

From my understanding, they are only sold at Big O tires now and have not been discountinued. Big O brought the rights to sell them.

If you don't like the Big O outfit, then I'd go with the Falken's Ziex ZE-512. though they are only good for 30,000 miles rather then 60,000 miles with the ZE-502s.

Dunlop SP 5000 for daily
Michelin Pilot Alpins for Snow

I tried Azenis in snow once lol, better off just driving on the rims

If your only season is summer and it never rains.

 

there are not on the poll but i have the yokohoma avs es100's and they have handled beautifully in all weather. last year we didn't get a lot of snow but when we did they handled just fine

The continental ones i posted have a REALLY good rating on everything. Go to tirerack and look them up.

 

Now people say that the Falken Azenis suck *** in the rain. What exactly do they mean by suck? Compared to what? To the stock michelins? I have shitty touring tires i dont even know what the **** they are They came on the car, I just bought about a lil over a month ago so it aint my fault. I dont have the money to get new tires yet but i am running low on tread So theoretically would azenis suck more *** than my shitty bald tires i have now? I am serious, because someone said that they had to feather the clutch at intersections in snow, WELL I HAVE TO DO THAT WHEN IT ******* RAINS!!! If i do a moderate lauch i will spin ******* wheels and finally get traction at 3000 rpm. Its like i have to almost just let the clutch out ill it almost dies then give it a tiny amount of gas so i dont spin. So I want some azenis, they are cheap enough and have good dry grip at least Sow how good are they in rain ?

for the continentals. Awesome tires for everything. If you go to discount I think they are like 100 bones a tire, 250 for 2. That aint too bad if you ask me.

 

There is no such thing as All-season tire and will never run one.

Azenis are one of the best tires for the rain if, your car has camber, are always turning, and are probably on a racing surface. Now on the highway going straight that is a different story.

 

Looks like lot of guys like the Dunlop 5000's. I don't see that they are made in 195/55-15. This true?

What are your favorite in this size?

i agree whole heartedly that the term all season tire is a load of crap.

i run Hankook W300's on mine for the winter and while they give awesome snow traction they do very well in the rain and also grip surprisingly well dry, even better than the Michelin Energy's i was driving on my demo in the summer. Do they grip anywhere near my Azenis i run for summer, not even close.

Run Azenis for summer and the W300 for the winter.

Do they make one jacket designed to be worn for everest climbs and then for running track in Phoenix? Do they make one pair fo shoes you can go hiking with and then come right down and play tennis? Of course not its a stupid question so why would you subject one set of tires to the same conditions?
