IMHO its too much for a car that is that heavily modified. Clean or not the asking price is way high. Turboed ITRs are a tossup, sure there are plenty that are done right, but as to buying a pre-turboed one its completely different.
yeah, I just IM him but he is not on the boards right now. I have had 2 type-r's before but never turboed.
I really just want to get rid of the s2k and get back into an R

I'd say the asking price is too much. I'm sure he has more into it $$$ wise but still it's got a turbo on it. I agree with what Koala yummies said about the toss up thing. Turbo can be the answer to all your problems and the cause of a million new ones. No doubt, that car is sick and hella clean. I'd get one that was as close to stock as possible and start from scratch. But that's just me.
I totally stole that bold quote from someones siggy.

No matter what anyone says, if you own a turbo'd ITR you have to always be prepared for something to go wrong. That means $$$$ in the bank, in your ITR-T account. It takes a certain type of person to own a heavily modded car. I expect my car to blow up every day, it keeps suprising me when it doesn't.

It would be good if you got some facts and evidence on the condition of that car. It will be hard to find though. One thing I was thinking of was that he said it was "fully tuned." What does that mean?! For instance does he mean that the engine will operate without predetonation problems? Also you'd want to either know what type of tune the car has (conservative, aggresive, etc) or you can just have it re-tuned once you buy it. Though this may cost around $500 depending on tuner, shop and a lot of other things, and is an added risk as well.
One way to check the car out, provided you know/can find a good mechanic and he does a good job is to have the car checked out. Do a compression test etc. And theres the usual, make sure to drive it. Go through all the gears, check the condition of the fluids, look in any available maintenance records.
I would say that the setup for the turbo is quite good. He has thought to put a new clutch on to hold the power, and a fuel system modifications are proper.
The car runs on Hondata, which can open a can of worms. So it will have a OBD2 to OBD1 conversion running with a ECU from the first half of the 1990's. You should check if the car functions are operating properly, plus ECU conversions can cause some other problems. Check if there are any CEL codes when you buy it.
And lastly this car will not pass emissions in California, so if you want to operate it there and you get a smog check notice I believe you're going to have to swap motors or disassemble the whole turbo system, obd ecu conversions etc, which could cost around $1000 again depending on many factors to get it cleared so you can continue driving it.

id buy it at that price and if it blows but in a stock motor
cuz the exterior mods alone are worth the asking price for that 2001, now if the car does blow your looking at 28k for that car with a new stock motor with some extra parts you can part with of the blown motor and thats fairly cheap for a nicely done jdm conversion 2001 Black R with carbon fiber parts, assuming you like the esthetic mods that are already done to that car and you would do them anyway you'd pay the big bucks to do them. Either way they'll be plenty other more for sale if your patient without turbo.. good luck with your choice...

let me clear up some questions.
Just recently did a compression test 220 all across leak down was at 8% all across. done with Matco tools.
Fully tuned:
tuned on a dyno dynamic dyno. Tuned by yours turely "MASE" made decent numbers on .4 bar (215whp)
no detionation. does not run lean. starts up great.
if i dont sell the car its no biggy for me. i just dont want to put more money into the car (the ITR is a money pit). motor is still very strong. i will let anybody who is SERIOUS about buying the car test drive it.
NOTE: P28 ECU was Chipped by hondata. the OBD2b-ODB1 conversion was made by "Blown90hatcH" no cells or anything. everything works. dont believe me? come by and check it out

make sure that you're not buying someone elses problems. who tuned the car?
All these things matter so you know what kind of stuff you're' getting in to

it takes a certain kind of person to own and maintain this level of an automobile. if you are that person, (and you should'nt have to wonder, otherwise you're not
), buy it because it looks and sounds like an exceptional example of a modded ITR.
just beautiful...i could never sell it if i was the owner

asking price is too high? Not in my opinion, but maybe that's because I know the owner personally and know how well maintained the car is. I've never seen it with a spec of dirt on it, the turbo setup and install are immaculate. 20k is a great price, you'll be very happy with the car. If you don't like turbo, buy the car and sell the turbo kit and you just got a 01 ITR for 17,500.
