I'm looking into purchasing a Type R so I was wondering what are the reliability issues that I should be aware of? I've heard rumors the engine starts to get problems after 60K miles, can anyone validate these claims?

Never heard of this problem. Even though it is a type r, it is still just as reliable as a civic.

 

I think the only problem that you have to worry about w/ an R as opposed to a civic/accord/regular integra is oil consumption and THEFT

yup besides those 2, there isn't much else. do the reg maintenance and it is very very reliable

 

No matter which way you look at it, it's still a Honda, so you'll get Honda reliability. Mine barely goes through any oil between changes and always starts no problem. It's when you start modifying engine internals, that's when you could lose the reliability. Without proper tuning it could be a nightmare. But if you get basic bolt-ons, I/H/E, and leave it at that you should be fine.

 

Keep it stock and it will love you long time.

If it doesn't get stolen

 

No problems here, and lots of track miles.

Bingo.

Be careful not to get one that has been beat on too hard. Try to find out as much of the history as you can (previous owners, what the car was used for and if it has been stolen or crashed).

I've bought two ITR's used and fortunately have been lucky. Then again, I've looked/ test driven about 10 that were
