[By using the HAMP filter it automatically increases your oil pressure giving you better circulation with the stock oil pump.
I have heard that the K&N oil filters can contaminate the oil on import cars with high oil temps the media breaks down.
So I would use the HAMP or the stock Honda (small) filter.
just my 2c]
I've been using the K&N oil filters without any harm to my 95 GS-R sedan's engein w/ 58,300 miles on the odometer thus far.
The quote by ncturnal gives me reason for some concern as to what harm the K&N oil filter may cause my engine with prolong use. This is my second K&N oil filter and so far everything seems OK.
Since I started using Castrol full synthetic Syntech motor oil. I was told that I needed to up grade the OEM oil filter, since the OEM is only good for about 3,000 miles.
From my limited understanding of such matters, I was lead to believe that the K&N oli filter could be applied in two ways;
Change the Castrol Syntech out at 3,000 and not change the K&N felter till the second 3,000 mile oil change. Thus getting 6,000 miles out of the oil filter.
Or change out both Castrol Syntech and K&N oil filter at 5,000 miles.
I thought this all made sense, till I read the above quote. If there is truth to the statment made by ncturnal and I don't wish to change out the Castrol Syntech at 3,000 miles with the OEM filter.
Then would the HAMP filter be good for 5,000 miles before I need to change it out with the Castrol Syntech? I found some OEM filter on this web site, here's the link below.
To my way of thinking, would the Denso A6000-116741 work out in the way I would like to apply the oil changes with the oil filter changes at 5,000 miles?
Thank you all in advnace for chimming in.
TQ

i used the k&n oil filter once but there was something about it i didnt like....i think i was reading somewhere that the multipass effeciency wasnt that good or something.......i used to get really bored at my store and read all the boxes on the filters......anywayz, i quit using it after reading something and have been using the honda filter part# 15400-plm-a01 which is the filtech one and i change my oil w/mobile 1 about every 4500-5000 miles....well, that was just my .002 and that might not help you any but at least you got a bump outta me!

ok for this reason i will never use OEM honda filter
i use the filter on my bone stock 90 CRX hf and every time i take it off some of the pieces of the inside of the filter come apart. never had that prob with other filters just honda's . for some reason it separates and theres pieces on the filter by the holes so.... my 2c

really? havent heard this! how long do you leave the filter on, do you change the filter every time?

ive used the k&n on all my cars without any problems. i change both the filter and the oil at 3000 miles. the oem is a bit cheaper than the k&n though so it depends on how much you wanna spend on an oil change.

Something that i think looks like a great design (although I dont have personal experience with the filter) is the new Trasko-Bee oil filter. The Tokyo government actually had Trasko-Bee develop a new filter design to extend the life of motors. A quote from the site:
"Conventional shunt filters filter no finer than 20 microns. 40% of all dirt particles in the oil are smaller than a micron. This means that 40% of abrasive particles continually circulate in the engine wearing it out. THE TRASKO FILTER spin on filtration system refines oil 1/10th of a micron, vastly improving oil purity and reducing engine wear.
Cooler Oil
Oil remains up to 20% cooler due to cooling fin design. Cooling is the most important factor in oil lubrication and keeps oil way below the threshold of oil and additive thermal deterioration.
Superior Lubrication
In addition to removing all dirt, carbon and sludge, our systems remove all moisture and water content that causes acid in the oil and is responsible for 70% to 80% of engine wear.
Lower Maintenance
and Repair Costs
Superior filtration, lubrication, and cooling affects a fleets bottom line more than any other single factor. This is the new paradigm in significantly reducing overhead, doubling engine life, increasing fuel economy, reducing emissions and helping the environment.... one engine at a time."
This filter has uses replaceable media and a reusable housong, but I think its like $80. However, I think it's worth it to keep so much more crap out of the motor, if you truly love your precision Honda motor (or other)

I use an S2K filter, its made out of better material and its bigger. I use this in my GSR-Turbo. I actually couldn't pull past the top of 4th gear without getting a check engine code for oil pressure. Well I changed filters and now I can go through 4th no prob and into 5th with ease. No oil pressure problems....I won't ever go back to OEM honda, which is made by fram and isn't the best material. Go with an S2K if you really want to put the best oil filter in your car.

Hey Patdemps;
Forgive me this dumb question, but, who makes the S2K oil filter? If you or some one can tell me where I can purchase a S2K oil filter or a link to a web site that'll be great!
Peace
TQ

Honda has 2 different filters for Civics and Integras. Canadian-made filters are by Fram. USA-made filters are by Filtech, and are better.
I personally ALWAYS change my oil AND filter every 3000 miles (lately about once every month). For this reason I don't use some high dollar filter. I've been using STP filters which seem to be similar in construction to the OEM Honda Filtech filters.
177,000 miles and still going strong, no measurable oil loss at all.

15400-P0H-305 = Filtech USA
15400-PT7-005 = Fram Canada
I think Honda has discontinued both of those, in favor of the smaller 15400-PLM-A02 that fits on the newer K-series engines. The ones I bought are made by Fram. Maybe Filtech will start making small filters too???
They still have a bigger one for the S2000, & it apparently fits.

Keep in mind that a larger oil filter will lower overall oil pressure, while a smaller one will raise oil pressure. So you don't want a filter that's TOO big.
the honda filtech filter i use is small (15400-plm-a01 )....i dont know what its for though but my friend at the dealer said its a better design and increases oil pressure.
Edit: i figured out what its for, its for an acura mdx!

So what oil filter do you guys reccommend then? I have heard of hamp being a very good filter but do not know where to get them or what there price is!

The difference in pressure is almost negligible.
I use S2000 Toyo Roki filters on all of my Hondas and am very satisfied. They are approximately the same size as the "old" Honda filters and cost about a dollar more than the Honda filter.
Apparently Toyo Roki makes the Hamp filters as well.

Here's some more info I found while surfing around the net. Looks like the HAMP filter made in Japan for R-type and S-type cars look good.
After all this searching around for a good oil filter, I hope to settle down with one that I'm comfertable with.
Well, here the link down below...
Peace
TQ

You can get it at your local Honda Parts Department. Part number is 15400-PCX-004.

Manchester Honda is selling Toyo Roki S2000 filters for $5.50 each if you buy a case of 10 ($55), and they are selling them individially for $6.30 each. Thsese filters are pretty much identical to the large Hamp:

There are a few different s2k filters.
Toyo: 15400-PR3-004
Toyo Roki: 15400-PR3-014
Filtech: 15400-PR3-315
All of these are sold in multiples of 30
But im sure that you can get the dealer to part out a case.
