If you use 6.5's you can simply cut holes into the rear side panels and easily mount them there. They are also in a good listening position... instead of under the seats.... which sucks.
Why?
Your soundstage comes from the front.
With 80-100 watts going to front speakers, head unit power is all that is needed for rear fill.

I'm sorry, but I don't think I understand what you're saying.
The HU is good enough to power 2 5.25's, but can't push 6.5's?? If that's what you're getting at then I have to disagree.
I don't have any external amp pushing any of the speakers in my car, other than the sub of course. I'm using an Alpine 7873HU that is more than capable of pushing the highs loud enough not to be overpowered by the bass. For sub and amp I'm using a Zapco AG200 and an Alpine Type-R 12". It all sounds good to me.

If you have subs already, you don't REALLY need rear speakers. IF you really want to mount the 6x9s, mount it in the rear package shelf, which should be sandwiched between the speakers and a piece of MDF to make it a more solid baffle. As for wiring, go to Rat Shack and pick up some quick disconnect Molex connectors. Or you can mount them underneath the shelf and perforate it so it can't be seen. But you really don't need rear speakers.
When you go to a live concert or show, where's the band? Right in front of you. Sell the 6x9"s and get some Dynamat Extreme for the FRONT doors.
Putting 6x9" speakers in little "truck" boxes is so ghetto. They need the airspace to work properly.

Definitely go with a set of 6.5". A buddy of mine stopped by the shop to install a set of JL XR650CS in his gf's 95 Civic EX coupe. He dynamated the hell out of the front doors and powered them with deck power off a 4 year old Alpine. We almost **** our pants at the midbass response when we played the first cut off David Gray's CD.... about 5 mins into the first track, there's this really nice bass line. We dragged one of the home audio sales guys out and told him there was an 8" sub in the trunk powered by a 100 watt amp. He listened to it and was pretty impressed.
And then we told him it was just a pair of 6.5"s off deck power. Okay, the loudness button was on, but it sound killer.

Mista, are you bolting that glass tub to the car? I'm working on something similar except I want the baffle and amp shrouds to the fiberglassed and smoothed to match the color of the car so it looks are pretty and stuff and to be removable. Creativity points if I ever want to do IASCA...
First design.........
I ran a long bolt from the top baffle, though box, and bolted into the spare tire mount.
Second design I went to a single 15" JBL 1500 GTi
and just used a small bolt though the bottom of the glass. Then sub was installed.
I used wide rubber washers from Home Depot to seal openings for the bolt holes.
BTW JBL 1500 GTi getting 600 watts in a TIGHT sealed box, I SUCKED in the dust cap!
