clutch pedal rest position
I finally got around to adjusting my clutch pedal today. I set the disengagement point as close as I could to the floor, but then I had a whole bunch of dead space at the top of the clutch travel. I tightened the rest bolt (I don't have a technical name for it) down as far as it would go, but there was still to much dead space. So I took out the lock nut and screwed the bolt all the way down, so the clutch pedal doesn't come up much past 4 inches from the carpet.
Now my question... The car drives fine, but I'm concerned the clutch isn't fully engaging when I'm in gear. Is there a way to test clutch engagement, or do I just have to drive around and see if it feels right.
Oh, b16 w/ cable tranny in a CRX, if that matters.

drive in first gear at around 6k rpm and start applying the brakes and flooring it slowly while keepin the car at 6k. make sense? if it doesnt redline then ur clutch is holding.
I wonder if thats how my gf's Gti is... it feels really weird when your not use to it. LIke the clutch lets in half an inch off the floor. If u dont expect it, you'll stall it hard.
I have my clutch adjusted at the top of the pedal play. So when i shift i only have to put the pedal down like 2 inches, so it doesnt have to go down as far.

91civiclx - that was some good advice, i did that a few times and the clutch held solid. i'm pretty well satisfied with my clutch travel now.
LAMA - it feels great. my clutch and gas pedals are at the same height now, and i don't have to guess how far to slam the pedal down now.
ESh - No matter how you position it, the amount of relevant clutch travel doesn't change... i prefer the pedal close to the floor to accomodate my height.
so, problem solved. thanks for everyone's inputs.

Related question - to adjust the pedal engagement point closer to the floor, which direction do you adjust the nut by the tranny at the end of the cable? Do you screw it down towards the lever on the tranny, or up and away from the lever on the tranny?
Another related question - what is the deal with the *SQUARK* noise my clutch makes when I push it in after the car's been run for a while? I can feel it in the pedal as well as hear the noise.

pedal engagement closer to floor you wanan "loosen" the adjustment ****, or turn it counterclockwise, i'm 99% sure.
Just give it a 2-3 twists and double check to make sure your headed in the desired direction
