Anyone here take the Type R to college? If so would you recommend me taking mine? I'm considering taking my caR to college because i really don't want to have to rely on my roommate to bring me home from time to time.
VT allows freshman to have cars, but they must park them in a huge lot far away from campus. I took mine down second semester when i was a Freshman, and never had problems.
Others have though, an ITR was jacked of its wheels and interior just last year at an apartment complex at VT.
I wouldnt take it, unless you have an excellent alarm system and full insurance and could deal if something happened to it.

I had to get though college to afford an R.
If you're not going to worring about it, bring it. Seriously, what's the point of letting it sit somewhere far away?

i am paranoid to even take my GSR to college. college lots are not exactly the most secure parking lots. at UCSD, cars are stolen out of the main garages every day.

San Diego sucks to have a nice car in, especially a honda, one of my buddies stock Integra GS got stolen down there.

I'm paranoid about it, so I drive my wifes Rav 4 to school. yah I'll admit to driving a Rav 4, but only for school. I have taken it to school two days but I"m still paranoid. I parked next to an STI just to feel safe. :-)
Speaking from personal experiences....
If you really care about the car, then no.
If you see realistically that it's just a Honda, and it's insured, then yes.

As if i am not paranoid enough about taking my caR to campus and parking it....get this ****.
So one day i am running a bit late and find my usual parking space cause it was an evening class. I park, grab my bag, and jump out of the caR! Well i put my keys in my pocket and push the lock button on the pad, it locks and all is well.........WRONG! I get to class when i start feeling for my keys to play with the R swindle key chain (some of you know what it is, fellow EXPO goers) when i discover that the only damn thing in my pockets is the keyless entry pad........"WTF, I silenty whisper to myself". So i get up and go blazing out of class searching frantically for the fawking llaves! I get the whole way back to my caR where i find both the key to my caR and my autolock key just laying on the ground
. I shoulda just put up signs "free caR"
........well, lets just say that whenever and wherever i go now.........I ALWAYS MAKE SURE I HAVE MY KEYS!
Edit: Moral of Story.........DONT BE A DUMBASS LIKE JON WAS

When I was at school one day, I spent hours looking for my keys when I discovered I left them in the passenger side door keyhole (parked on the street, keys facing the sidewalk).
I (H) Milwaukee! East SiEEED!
Even though it was a 10 year old Prelude, that wouldn't have lasted long in some cities.

Just get a good alarm and layer your defenses. Oh and full coverage helps out a lot. I am still shocked each day I come out of class to see that my car is still where I parked it.

I'm sure every type R owner kind of feels this way

i drove mine to school when i had it. I did not park it on the streets though. I paid extra for the school garage which is only accessible to fellow parkers. There was a guard when you went in as well as out. there were pretty much camera's in all corners. It was safe there
Like they are saying, it all depends on the area you goto school in and where you have to park it...most of the time if you park on campus it is pretty safe..i mean having an R anywhere is a risk...but would you rather have it sitting at home where you cannot even enjoy it? I would think about that. Just get a good alarm.
I bought mine while attending ASU... which more than likely has a bad rep (party school and in a not-always-secure area). I just made sure to make myself known to the parking attendants and whatnot so that they knew that car was mine and only mine. They kind of helped me to watch out for it.
The ITR is my 8th car overall: my fourth in college. Oh, and I'm only 20. I guess I'm just adicted to the car thing. Anyway, I too wonder wether or not my aaR will still be there when I get out of class each day. But given most people don't even think its a real R w/o the stickers, I don't worry much. A friend of mine had a GSR with a JDM front end which got stolen from an apartment near campus. I havent had any problems personally.
The car's I've had in college aaR...95 legend coupe, 97 honda prelude, 93 300zxtt, and now my ITR. I've had a few door dings here and there, but nothing major. I don't even park on campus now b/c it has just become rediculus w/ 25,000 Students and only 12,000 parking spots.
When its at home, the R is a garage *****, so I don't worry about it much. Whenever I leave it I think of all the posts on here about stolen R's and prepare for the worst. I do have a good alarm w/all the bells and whistles, and full coverage. It's a fun car to drive, but if your just going to let it sit I'd invest in a beater for school and leave the R at home. A friend of mine has a 02 trans-am that he only keeps at school between Aug-Oct, and March-May. Other than that, he goes home and gets his old school BMW to drive around during the winter.
Anyway, good luck and enjoy the R!

i go to William and Mary so people don't know very much about cars here. I just know that they do not know how to parallel park so i take the walk to protect my bumpers. I guess this is a mixed blessing.

I also try to get to know the security officers around the parking lot so that they know who I am and what car I drive. The cool thing is that I am the only PY ITR at my college, so they know me for that.

I'll be bringing mine to college. I don't have anything else to drive. I can't afford full coverage, but I do have comprehensive. Still won't replace an R though. They are getting more and more rare by the day. Plus, where I'm going, I don't know the area, I hope its safe. I'll need to find an apartment with a garage or something.
