Default Honda Civc CX d15B but Vtec inside?

My old engine started loosing power and made a very bad rattling noise. Mechanic suggested an engine swap since to replace the part he needed to replace would cost nearly the same amount. Plus I wanted a few more horses. The mechanic swapped out the motor for a V-tec but on the block it still says D15B. Is this normal? How can I really tell if its a Vtec? The engine is quieter and the power steering feels a LOT different.

The only mod on this car is the K&N Filtercharger.

What else should I do to this thing to give it a little more umph.
Im takin it on the express tonight to really see whats going on.

just take the valve cover off, its like 4 bolts, and the 4 spark plug wires. look for the 3 lobes per cylinder insted of 2. if you serarch here, someone will have pics of this.

Frickin' Ignorant HTer's
But I can't H8 because I was once like you.

Honda made a Dual Carb 1.5 SOHC engine stamped "D15B" for many base models and tons of engine importers sell these as engine replacements minus the carb set-up.

The D15B VTEC is also stamped D15B
JDM Honda likes to keep things simple and stamp engines ZC or D15B and figure we're smart enough to know the difference.

Simply not true. Honda produced a couple D15Bs that were NOT vtec. One was mentioned above that came in the 92-95 MX with dual carbs, and also the 96 Ri hat was fuel injected.

The simple way is to look next to the distributor, does it have the vtec solenoid, yes than it is, no, than it isn't.

lol... you did'nt check/buy the engine your mechanic was putting in.. you just gave him money and did'nt learn anything. now your on h-t asking us if you got pwned. LoL.. first.. look at the block stamp, if you don't know what that is, google.com honda block code, or look on honda-tech, second, does it have a vtec solenoid, again.. look on honda-tech if you don't know what it is.

Just a note for people...
LEARN BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING.... ignorance is not bliss.. it's ******* stupidty.
