H23 and nitrous
Want to get a little more power out of my h23 prelude and thought nitrous would be the best way to go......I was thinking about a zex dry kit. If i got a step colder plugs and retard the timing would it be really safe to run a 55 shot or 65? My engine has 160K miles on it but runs perfect never had any problems. Also is the zex "smart system" work very well. It sounds like it a good layout. Thanks for everything.

I loved my ZEX kit when I had it installed. It was a lot fun, I went through a bottle of nitrous a month, so money-wise it wasn't that bad. For the 55 and 65 shots, you don't have to retard any timing. For the ZEX kits, I'd run 1 step colder plugs. I ran this on my JDM b20a for a couple months, no complications. If you only gotta couple hundred but wanna get some speed I recommend it.

i have to disagree with that, i would retard the ignition at least 2 degrees
the zex smart system should be good enough to add the proper fuel
to run a safe dry kit
i think your stock fuel pump should be fine with a 65 shot.
anything higher i would probably upgrade it though.

Im runnin zex 55 on my SOHC F22 dropped 1 Sec easy off my 1/4 mile times, I have an H23 also. I think an H23 would love it. I was definately impressed, I recently pulled my f22 that had 4 bottles run through it, and you couldn't tell it had even seen nitrous.
on ZEX You will enjoy the feel.

any worries about my 160000 miles on my car? also how do i retard the timing on an h23 do you think 2-3 degrees would be good........i know you have to go about working with the distributor. Is there any write-ups on this. thanks.

The engine i ran 4 tanks through, has 157,600 on it. To adjust timing loosen the 3 distributor bolts, clockwise to retard, and counterclockwise to advance.

I would go with a wet kit. It doesnt have the hit a dry kit does, but its a lot safer because the Zex system is feeding it more fuel from the return line. Ask for the retard, with a 65 shot or less you wont need it as long as the fuel is there to burn.

The last thing you want to do is loose power because of too much retard. (No pun intended) If you dont know what your doing I suggest you find a friend who can show you the ropes. When your working with something like N20 you don't want to make careless mistakes. Granted a 55 shot or 65 shot for that matter wont do much damage but you want to be careful when spraying nitrous. The Zex dry kit is a great kit for beginners I used to go through about 4 tanks a month (track time included) with the 65 shot.
Good luck
Good luck
Well i will just have to get someone else to help me with it that has a timing light
I was also wondering what is safer......the wet or the dry kit and what you guys prefer on your cars.....if one or the other is safe why? thanks

n2o is a good cheaper way. first you need to do a leak down and compression test. do all normal maintance...ie-plugs, wires, cap, rotor, anything that looks worn.

that will work, but you lose a little off the bottle. if you get a msd digi 6, you can only drop timing during spray. that way you can advace a few degrees on the dist. for performance, and compansate using the msd.

a 65 shot (flywheel rated) of nitrous is safe, no biggie... i would recommend u to get a DP system if u plan on using a larger shot of n2o... see the link in my sig to check out my dyno plot on a 60 shot (flywheel rated)...

I have just installed a zex dry kit on my car with a 75 shot. as soon as I get my trans In I will let you know what I think.
