Heads up for nice Type R brake rotors
Hi all,
I thought I would pass along some info about some east-coast manufacturer of upgraded brake rotors for the Type R and other Hondas.
I saw a set a friend of mine bought for his STi and they looked nicey nice! They're heat treated and dynamically balanced - a little better than the Autozone crap - and probably a better choice for peeps that are REALLY hard on their brakes.
Check them out:

BPR - who is waiting to see if they come in 93-94 Legend GS/LS Coupe size because he wore his pads down to the backing plates at the track yesterday

:shrugg:
I guess you need that stuff.
Wonder what the price will be.....

I am 'sorta' hard on my brakes... and autozone crap works fine for me.
wear items = need to be cheap.

Yeah I know....
I wasn't really looking at that - more the heat treating and surface finishing.
The STi ones I saw were slotted - not drilled.
I get hotspots on cheap rotors - seems to be related to quality of the rotor iron more than pad material (actually seems to get worse with the more aggressive track pads).
- I guess I'll have to try a set and post a review.
BPR - who goes through rotors like diapers

They look really nice. I bought a complete brake kit(Slotted/Drilled rotors, metal master pads, ss lines, ATE racing fluid) for a helluva deal from c rotors in the performance section. Just waiting for them to arrive. They are zinc coated, don't know about heat treated though. My car doesn't see the track. Yet. If these don't work out, I'll give these a try.
By the way, BPR, your R is amazing. Looks like Vancouver in the background in your pic. Wish I could of seen it in person at the Type R meet back at the beginning of August.

A review would be nice. Unfortunately, I'm already seeing cracks on the OEM Brembo blanks I've been using for only 2 track days. Usually, rotors last me about 3-4 track days, but maybe without realizing it, I'm too hard on my brakes.
If these things last a bit longer, all the better. I think at $40/rotor, the brembos are starting to eat away at my wallet at this rate.

No such thing, your brakes are too *****!
I suffer from teh same thing
Heat cracks genereally after 2 days on AUtozone rotors.
At 2500lbs w/driver and ducts I still fade both Pather XP's and Cobalt spec VRs easily within 10 laps at Gingerman if I try.
The addition of ducting helped a lot, I think when I get a little more direct airflow on the brakes the problem should be not so bad.

how can cast iron be made that differently?
spots = pad/use issue vs. iron quality IMO.

cracks = a given with enough heat.
ducting will help the 2 day issue
.... buy 'any' rotor will get heat cracks with enough time.

jdm cast iron does not count.

a friend of mine actually works closeley with the racing brake folks in teh development of their subaru line. hence the slotted ones that there trying to get to full blanks. they are necessary on subaru because the stock rotor material is very soft for some reason. they do make for tons of other applications and i think they make blanks for itr as they first made rotors for show room stock and improved touring hondas. i know they make a couple differant material rotors. their top of the line turns cool colors in the bedding in process. the only reason i havent tried them is they only make cross drilled/slotted in my application and i've already broken autozone rotors. check out the site and e-mail them they'll be happy to answer your questions.

i have had no problem whatsoever w/ my brembo slotted/drilled rotors and ive gone thorugh 2 sets of pads w/o any cracks... i might not be as hard on my brakes as a race car driver but damn they r still holding up .....
im useing some power stop (re-boxed brembo's, its got 'brembo thesome part number) on the side. these rotor are drilled, im VERY hard my bakes, no ducting and no fading, no crackes yet either

I doubt you are as hard on brakes as me and Will. I suck at them, but I did get 5 weekends out of my last set of XP8's and autozone rotors.
