Default is this itr worth buying

my friend had a 2001 itr with 30xxx miles on it and he didnt make his payments so it got reposessed and now it is going to go to an auction. the thing is in pretty bad shape and i think if i go to the auction i might be able to pick it up real cheap. the thing is even if i get it real cheap it has a lot wrong with it. the clutch is completely burnt out, the v-tec wont even engage, and the body has scratches and dings in every panel. the kid took horrible care of the car. i think the reason the vtec wont engage is that he reved it too high and he said he looked in the head where the oil cap is and there were scratches on the cams. right now i have a 98 automatic ls and was thinking of converting it into a manual and maybe putting a vtec head on it but this might be a better idea. im not sure what it would take to get the vtec on the itr to work but even if i have to buy a new head id rather buy one for the itr than on my ls and the itr is already a manual. i was thinking i might bet as much as 6k on the car but if u guys think it is a waste of time let me know.

It depends on how cheap. I'd be willing to ber the no VTEC has to do with low oil. The car can always be painted.

indeed. if the price is right you can always replace the engine if need be.

how close are you to this "friend"? is it gonna be weird that you now have his car after he sh*t all over it? what i'm still wondering about is how someone could afford to get an 01 in the first place to only treat it like crap? if he was filthy rich then i'd understand, but repossesed?

my advice is, buy it if you can get it for cheap. then build it into something really worthy and true for an original integra-aRR. rebuild the motor, redo the body and paint, add a jdm nose as an option and undo all the damage...watch your friend regret it.

How can we determine if it's "worth it" without knowing the price?
