just broken in si 2004
i just go a civic si 2004, and i just broke it in. i need help as to learning how to launch properly and what i should get first. my friend told me to get intake first, an aem intake, but i'm not sure as to what i should get first. i don't want to modify too much as to where my mom will get mad, but just enough so i don't have to get raped by everyone.
I'd like to help ya noob but I think these people would help more than me https://honda-tech.com/zeroforum?id=32
I wouldn't tell you not to mod your car, cause obviously you would like to and you wanted to get some good advice from some knowledgeable people so i'm not going to lecture you...
...you just want some answers!
All i had done to my car for a year was an AEM CAI and i had fun with it! I see nothing wrong with getting a intake but in your case you should keep in mind that the Air Bypass Valve is not applicable with the CAI system so there is no 2nd chance if you hit a puddle that you thought you could clear. You could go with the AEM V2 and get similar power gains to the CAI but you would still suffer from heat soak on a day of frequent racing...
This summer was the first time i got something new for my car since the intake and it was the Neuspeed Short Shift Adapter. It was fairly easy to install and i was pleased with the out come for the price. It only goes for about $75 and can improve your performance on the street sometimes enough to come out above your competition
After that i went for a Turbo kit but i really wouldn't recommend going for that option... if you do, good luck hiding that from your mom
The best advice i could give you for your situation is to slowly upgrade the necessary systems of your car at your own pace. Intake, Exhaust, Better spark plugs(maybe a small mod but they do help), you could get the AEM pulley and Neuspeed Short shifter adapter for like $150. If you had the above mentioned you would have a decently upgraded car,(at least i'd be pleased with it) and it could be slipped by "momma dukes"...
As for Launching technique... you really just have to practice as unlawful as it sounds. What i do is i steady the RPM's at about 2500-3000 and slowly bring the clutch out to the point where it just barely grabs, hold it there so the car is stopped but i'm not using the brake and as soon as i see that green light i put that little pedal on the right as far down as i can, and as i put down that little pedal on the right i drop the clutch like it's hot!!!
LOL Works good for me and i usually don't get alot of wheel hop or breakage. A subtle little chirp and off i go! I'm on stock rims and tires so it might be ideal for you!
Hope i helped!!!

Sorry, I'm getting tired of threads like this. Do a search in the archives.
