Car Engine Shaking
I changed all three engine mounts. Now, is better. But, still shaking a little big.
Mechanic said that I should change some sort of hydraulic engine mount. Cost is over $300.
Just what is this thing? I have never heard of it. I have 150K miles in my 93 Accord. I am not sure this sort of invesment is worth it. Have you guys changed your whatever this guy is talking about?

find a new mechanic!!! QUICK
first ?
Does it have a miss? With the car running and in gear have someone hold the brake and raise the idle, does it get worse? If it does then start by pulling one plug wire at the spark plug side off( Do not pull all the way out, just enuff to make the spark jump to the head/vc) , if there is a change put back on then do the next one find the one that doesn't make a difference. To check if its a plug or wire switch the wire with another cylinder and see if the miss went with it or stayed.
If no miss, have your friend put it in gear and give it gas(while holding brake). Do this in both foward and reverse, you should be able to tell which mount is the problem.
hope this info helps

I Hi have never heard of a hydraulic engine mount in my life. I guess it is some kind of engine mount filled with water (or maybe not). This is a dumb mechanic trying to take advantage of you. Find a new one.

They're not that expensive, either.
Some Hondas have vacuum-operated rear engine mounts. Certain years, maybe auto-trans only?? Our '98 4-cyl auto-trans has that, but I don't know if they were used as early as '93. Those ARE expensive.

Ive changed that motor mount before. It's the rear motor mount under the intake manifold. Its a pain to change too.I bought the motor mount at autozone and it ran me about $220.
So yes there is a hydraulic motor mount on your car.The reason it is probaly broken is that the ruber part on the mount is busted .

He's right the rest of you guys (other than JimBlake) shouldn't be talking! You must have an automatic cuz the manuals don't have this. The mount changes stiffness at idle to absorb more vibration, could also be you idle speed is too low.
And seriously we need more info. Start with the make and model of the car and what type of tranny!!!
