Default Big Brake Swap on HF

89 CRX HF

I have 90-93 Teg 4 wheel disc setup.

I know that the stock HF axles won't work.

I know I read somewhere about HFs having different balljoints but I can't find it now.

I need to know if I sit down with my HF, a set of DA brakes w/master cylinder and prop valve, and a set of SI axles if I'll have enough stuff.

Thanks

if you use the teg master cylinder you need the brake booster as well...and probalby going to need the integra brake lines too...otherwise you have everything else needed listed...

You will need the DA booster to use the DA master cylinder.

With the HF, it is necessary to swap to DX or Si knuckles to use the larger axles - if you're using the DA knuckles then you won't have to worry about this.

Use SI axles with the DA knuckles/brakes. If you can find them u can also use 4th gen EX brakes and knuckles.

A better choice than DA knuckles would be 1990-1991 EX knuckles. They are a perfect fit. As for the axles, HF/STD axles will fit into an SI transmission. So logic dictates that SI axles will fit into an HF transmission.

I thought he said he already has the Si axles; I think I misread. He does know that the HF axles won't work.

I know that the axles will fit in the hub and in the trans.

The Question is:

Will the hubs fit the HF?

Are the ball joints different?

bigger axles wont fit in the hf tranny so you can use different knuckles

I would just do a master cyl from a 91 ex along with front knuckles off a 91 ex as well. Your geometry will be perfect and you dont have to change boosters to run a 91 ex master cyl.

DA knuckles (or 90-91 ex knuckles) and an HF tranny.

Si/DX axles willl work.

People here do knuckle swaps all the time on HF and STD cars to use the larger hubs, so they should be the same.

The EX master cylinder is not guaranteed. We tried both the EX master cylinder and the Accord LX-i master cylinder on a friend's '91 HF, and it would not work properly with his booster. It worked fine with my Si booster though . . .

The '90-91 EX knuckles are more ideal than Integra knuckles, but harder to find.

I've gotten 91 ex master cyl's to work on 88hf's and 89-91 si's with no problems so far. I didnt even have to bend any lines.

But HF axles WILL fit an SI transmission. And DX/SI axles WILL fit in a Civic STD 4-speed transmission (which uses HF axles). So why not SI axles in an HF transmission. Please tell me.

OK boys & girls,
I did the swap I was asking about.
I used 5 speed axles from an '89 civic 4 door & hubs from a 90-93 Teg.
Everything on the front bolted up fine.
It took me 3.5 - 4 hrs to do this alone but with the right tools.
The knuckles bolted up ultra easy and super fast.
The biggest pain was the master cylinder booster.
If I had to do it again I think I might remove the steering column.
There a four nuts that hold the master cylinder to the firewall that are hidden by the brackets that hold the pedals in place. It took forever to remove and install the new bolts.
I didn't have to bend any brake lines.
I didn't install the prop valve or the rear discs, yet.....

Impressions:
It was raining when I was done. The fronts lock easilly now on the wet road.
I swear I can feel the weight of the bigger brakes, kinda like when I removed the 155/13s and put on the 195/15s.
As far as the poor handling that all the "experts" on this site proclaimed. I felt nothing. In fact it anything was changed it was the steering ratio. It seems to steer a little easier.
I figure the fronts lock easier now but maybe that will get better with the prop valve installed.

The steering ratio did not change unless you changed the rack. What you are feeling is change in caster.

The rack is not the only thing that affects the steering ratio.

remember to keep your ef lower control arms
because integra's will not mount up with your radius rods correctly, plus you will need to runn 14 or bigger rims calipars will not clear other wise. i was told 89 prelude mc are the biggest dirrect bolt on to the ef booster but the prelude mc are known for going out.
i would go with:
90-93 integra rear trailing arms with discs
crossdrilled/slotted rotors up front (lighter the hub the better)
hawk pads all around
steel braided lines
90-93 integra proportioning valve
90-93 integra brake booster
90-93 integra master cylinder
