Anyone else have this problem with using Tokico illuminas?
Ok so I swapped my suspention from my 89 onto my 90.
Well i noticed on the shocks they have a grove from the bolt. I then realized while putting everything back together that the shock kinda gets in the way of the bolt and messing up the threads, then in turn stripped the fork that the shocks sit into, i'm talking about the front shocks here. Well both sides on my 89 are fucked, and the passenger side of my 90 is stripped now too. Has anyone else had this happen? What can I do to prevent this from happening again after I get new parts?
I noticed that the shocks have a grove on the one side, but that side doesnt go where the bolt goes either. WTF is going on here?

post some pics dude, your description is really vague. It sounds like its and error of yours if you bought the right shocks for you car then you shouldnt have a problem. Your saying you stripped the front forks correct? Top bolt or lower bolt on the fork?
man, that stuff is messed up now.
here...take out the shocks and take out the fork. look at the back of the fork where the bolt goes thru. the fork is split there. that is to pinch the shock by letting the diameter get smaller. now look at the shock...at the back too. the back has a horizontal groove for the bolt to slide past the shock body. you have to put the bolt thru there or you will mess everything up like you did. to aid in lining everything up, the brake line bracket/clamp has a little pointed part that goes into the split in the fork. the fork should sit flush w/ the bottom of the bracket on the shock. if you put the bolt into the fork w/o the shock and look down, you can see how the bolt needs to go thru the groove on the shock.

I did notice that grove for the bolt on my shock. But if I put it in that way the brake line mounts were on the wrong side. Don't go saying "oh but you have the extra mounting plate to relocate them lines" because i know that and I used it. The way I put them in everything bolted up perfect, but it just fucked up the pinch bolt.
sounds like you were using the wrong shock for the wrong side of the car. i have tokico illuminas on my crx and everything lined up perfectly. make sure you are using the right shock on the right side of the car and the left shock on the left side.
Yeah, i don't see how you could have messed up the pinch part of it. I see two problems:
1) you switched the forks around, and did not know which one went L/R
2) because of this, you probably had the shocks in the wrong place

maybe you got the wrong shocks. check the part number. if you got the right shocks then you had to have done something wrong. maybe you installed the brake line tabs the wrong way on the shock? i have tokico illuminas and i had no problem with the installation of mine.
