So, I go with my dad today to check out some possible cars to replace his aging Miata. We drive the Boxter and the MazdaSpeed Miata (still need to check out the Z3 and TT), then headed over the Honda dealer to check out the S2000. The first dealer we go to doesn't have any, so we head to another. The second dealer has a yellow one on the floor in the showroom, but we aren't able to drive it.

Actually, the salesman said that they don't normally let people drive them since they are hard to come by. He said they normally do all the paperwork and settle on the price, then you drive the car you plan to buy. If you change your mind, it's not a big deal, they just cancel the deal. Is this the experience you guys had before you purchased your cars? Did you buy yours without driving one at all? I have an idea what to expect since I've driven plenty of other VTec Hondas, but my dad hasn't had that experience.

So my question is, is there anyone in the DC/NoVa area that would let my father take a testdrive of their S2000? I'm not talking about a weekend trip to the mountains or anything, but just a ride around the block to see how it feels and maybe even experience VTec. Anyone?

around here, any dealership will let you test drive one

 

If dealers don't have any in, just look in the autotrader. I'm sure there is someone in your area that's selling--in which case, you'd have your test drive right there.

 

i'm in fairfax.. but my s is a little modified..... suspension wise..... so i don't know if he wants to drive a stock one or not... go to http://www.s2ki.com and go to the mid-atlantic forum and you should find a lot of people on there that might be willing to help that have a stock S..

 

I've seen people test driving the S2K at Herson's Honda in Rockville and Ourisman Honda in Bethesda allows test drives as well.

 

Actually don't feel bad my local Honda dealer told me the exact same thing. I don't think he was just saying it either as I've bought a Prelude and a CRV from him.

Why not look for one on a used car lot?

 

i went to landmark honda and they let me test drive one with no questions asked. you just have to look professional and ready to buy...not there just to waste their time.

but this was a year and 1/2 ago, i dont' know if their procedures have changed.

 

I live in a small a$$ city in texas and i went up there and told them that i wanted to test drive one and they let me But the sorry thing is that the sales lady went with me so i couldnt get on it. But it was okay because the sales lady was frickin HOT!!!

 

You can also try to look for used S2000's to test drive. They're already broken in and the dealers or sellers normally don't mind letting you drive used vehicles. I did this before I bought mine. I test drove a used one from CarMax.

 

Thanks for the info. I'll check with those dealers mentioned to see what their policy is. And of course, driving a used one before you buy it is a given. Maybe finding aprivate seller is the way to go.

did you get her digits?? hehehehe...since you got the S how could she refuse right?? hehe

 

open up your search and you'll find a dealer with one willing to test drive it.
