The easiest thing to do is search on the Internet. There are probably tons of articles. But, at least I would get some Stabil and add it to whatever gas is left in the tank. Most likely an oil change. Maybe disconnect the battery or hook it up to a trickle charger. Not sure, but you should be definitely be able to find articles on the net.

Be safe in Iraq !!! I do not support the war, but I definitely support our troops over there risking their lives !!! I'll pray for your safety.

leave you R in my possesion i will make sure it is in one piece when you get home, if i break it i will like glue it all together in 1 piece

my brother just left to japan a couple weeks ago and left his brand new eclipse at my gmas condo, me or my dad are just going to turn it on like once a month and maybe take i for a spin down the block before garaging it again, but if you dont have any one to do that then just run it out of gas(almost) and wash it before you park it

fresh fluids(eng. oil, trans oil, coolant) run tha gas tank almost empty. then you either put the car on jack stands, disconect the battery. leave it at that, then fresh fluids again when you get back. or trsut your friend to drive it around the block about every week end and change the oil every 5 months.

if you do leave the car on jack stands make sure to clean the inside, as any food or drink left inside will stick up the car and atract ants, or rats.
and be safe. make sure you get back in one piece.

write down the miles on the car before you leave to see if anyone drives it.

Good luck in Iraq.

If you have time, and your friend isn't going to drive your car, then order a Car Bag. They have a website, do a search for it. It comes with dessicant to keep it dry and seals up to keep the critters out.

Also change all the fluids like everyone else said. But go to a good Auto store and buy some fluid preservatives. I did alot of research before I put my car in storage and most experts said to fill the gas tank just before storage and mix in Sta-bil or some other product. There are products for the radiator fluid and oil also. Just buy what you can and change it all as close to storage time as possible.
- If you leave the gas tank empty it will rust, and that is bad. My skyline gas tank is rusted and I have to change my gas filter all the time. When I change it, brown syrup comes out of it! Imagine what that is doing inside the engine!

Before you put it in storage run the car long enough to get it good and hot, not just start it for a couple of minutes just to get it warm. Getting it hot will burn off any moisture and help the corrosion from getting a head start.

Putting the car on jackstands is the most debated issue for car storage. The car is always sitting on the suspension, so how much difference is there for storage?! Of course the springs get exercised during driving, but how much this matters is the debatable issue. I put my car on jackstands but I only put them high enough to raise the car an inch or two. The tires will be dry rotted most likely anyway when you return, so if you don't have time or you are worried someone could knock the car of off the stands just leave it on the ground.

Don't forget to change your insurance to just storage. It is much cheaper and will give you some peace of mind in case something happens to her in storage.

Again good luck over there!

remove the battery and store on a piece of wood on the ground.

Whenever you use Sta-bil, it must be with fresh gas, using it with old gas does nothing.

I left mine in the garage while I'm still deployed in Iraq. My wife will usually drive it every once in awhile. Good Luck in your deployment. Ohh make sure you do not leave your winter gear. You will need it.

DO NOT run the tank empty. Get a fuel storage additive like stabil, and fill your tank completly up, I mean completly up. If there is no room for air in your gas tank, there will be no room for condensation and water to form.

Disconnect your battery, and put the car up on jack stands.

If you want you can throw some marval mystery oil down the plug holes and crank the engine over a bit with the fuel pump fuse pulled to coat the cylinder walls and keep down rust.

Edit...I would probably add the mystery oil seeing as you will be gone for 18 months.

Good luck in Iraq.

Dont forget to cover the intake filter...and put a cup in the exhaust or block off the muffler somehow.

I wouldn't worry about jacking the car up (unless your area is prone to flooding) whereas the tires are going to be pretty rotted after nearly 2 years of sitting. Plastic wrap over your exhaust to keep critters out, a battery charger and fuel and oil stabilizer.

Good luck over there. They're savages
