Default 89 Si transmission code?

I'm looking to replace the transmission in a 89 Civic Si, however I'm trying to figure out how to tell the difference between the Si trans and a DX trans. They all seem to be L3 transmissions.

How can I tell the difference without opening them up?

Thanks in advance....

I read that, however, I don't see anything written by the oil fill plug. Here are the codes off two of the transmissions, the other is from an '88.

L3-210552X
L3-2284812

We checked out current tranny, along with another Si tranny and they both start like this ---> L3-1XXXXX, and one DX tranny that we know of is L3-2XXXXX... so I have a feeling that both of these trannies are from a DX. Can anyone help confirm this, maybe some DX people post their tranny code.

the L3 and then serial #s have nothing to do with what tranny it is. Look near the fill plug of the tranny and youll see a casting that says

PL3/x000

or

PL3/Ax00

X=any number

a pl3/x000 is a si and the pl3/ax00 is a dx

if its not there, it could be a early 88 tranny, they have been known to not have a code of them.
