Default Short Shifters

Ive never owned a car with a short shifter until now and my question for you is does the short shifter make your gears come closer together? i noticed on my new hatch that its sometimes hard to get into 1st.I can get into first but theres times that i think im in first but its not so i try again and it finally is in and other times i get into first and everything is fine. Also the gears are pretty close together.....this is a 92 cx with a cx trannsmission

it makes the distance that you have to move your hand to go between gears shorter.

so if you had to move your hand 8" to go from 1st gear to 2nd gear. With a short shifter it would be about 4" or so

it does not change the gears them selves, just the geometery of the shifter

i dunno how to say it but it wont make your gear closers but it make your throw shorter like the time/feel from 1st gear to 2nd gear

the big difference i see from Teg and Civic shifter is 2nd and 4th are so close side by side...

the reason it is hard to get into other gears or first, a short shifter opens up the pivot point to make the throw shorter. when that happens, you loose mechanical advantage of the lever well it makes it harder. thats a draw back.
