Default $11000 to make it do everything but fly

(post was written over the course of a week)

1996 Civic ex SOHC 1.6L VTEC

For the most part she is totally stock.

My goal is upwards of 600-700 Horses with a top speed of 250+MPH

I need some help here guys. I prefer to race vehicles of the two-wheeled nature and am not much of a fan of the rice rockets but I've seen what they can do now and I'm a bit hooked. So its time for me to get into the scene. I've heard people say 8 second cars can't be pretty and as far as I'm concerned thats crap and I don't want to hear it. I can handle makin the car look pretty. (Keep an eye out over the next year or two for a black and red '96 civic that has some things you've never seen before........two words.............rocket fuel.)

Anyway I need a part by part setup to make my car a rolling god. I have 6G's now and i suppose I could squeeze another 5G's into it within a year. (motorcycle racing has its ups.) Legality really isn't an issue as I never spend to much time within the bounds of the law anyway. A costly habit but worth it when it wins races.

Basically I have a few resources but one more never hurts. I have basic knowledge of old school motors but not newer lightweight foreign motor crap and computers. My master mechanic can make a bike fly but can barely tell me how many wheels are on a car. My racing wingman knows a bit about the civic and has one himself but he never has the money to do the crazy **** so he doesn't know about high end systems.I was considering swapping the civic engine for a prelude, I heard you can get more out of those. But i would kinda like to leave the engine where it is for now.

I know a bit about what I need but I'm not interested in missing a key part and blowing my engine. For instance I've heard that after 250HP i should consider new pistons, connecting rods and the like as the stock ones are to weak.

As for superchargers, turbos and nitrous I have no problem using them but not as a cheap alternative.

If i get a turbo charger and an intercooler is that the entire intake system or can i get more. Like an intake manifold or something else?

Can I do a turbocharer and a supercharger and NOS?

What about running liquid O2 through the intake to both cool and aspirate the engine?.

The intake systems that are like ram and cold air and stuff just look like a pipe and a filter. If I get one of those and change the filter to like a K&N or something will that defeat the whole purpose?

Can someone give me some good brands to look for I've been seeing Venom and Greddy mostly which interest me.

(few days later)

Got bored and bought some stuff, I know i should have waited but I couldn't help myself. I figured this stuff I can keep throughout the whole build.

The list:
-Hyper ground system
-Hyper voltage system
-Nology hotwire spark plug wires
-irdium spark plugs
-Cold front intake system (temporary)

My main focus is 3 things:
The air system - From intake to exhaust.
The fuel system - Gonna need to keep up with the pace.
The transmission - been reading some scary crap about racing clutches that will hold up to 500HP, what about my 700HP? am I screwed?

My biggest worries are:
-The engine/transmission components being to weak for the power.
-The whole ECU thing cause I don't understand how it works
-Kinda worried about the power situation. Gonna need a heavy duty alternator as it is. I'm gonna be pullin some serious amps. 500-1000 Watt stereo. DVD. At least 3 screens. XBOX. 2 250lbs. 8 inch linear actuators. 2 75LBS. 6 inch linear actuators. about 400 LED's (I won'e use NEON unless i don't have a choice). 2-4 blacklights and a multi colored party ball . Not to mention a shitload of illuminated switches and a completly keyless remote system for doors, hood, ignition, and electronics.

Anyway hook a brother up. I need to make this thing fly.

Also I'm not currently in San Diego but I will be soon. I'm at home learning how to walk again from my last motorcycle accident. I'll be putting together a team when I get back for both bikes and cars. If your interested drop me a line at Recon_Marine_01@yahoo.com No hacks please. You have to want it. Mechanics are appreciated, particularly auto. Not asking you to work for free but we all help eachother out so..............

Don't street race, hit me in my car cause you were living the glory of winning the race, and if I'm able, I will get out and cut your ******* head off then teabag you with your own *****.

I'm already sensing some very unreasonable goals, but I'll continue to read. I don't know what the land speed record is for a FWD car, but I can't imagine it being very far away from that 250 mph if it's even that high.

The "scene" actually has very little to do with true racecars. The "scene" consists of mostly poor high school kids who are either jumping on the JDM bandwagon, the drifting bandwagon, or any of the other little clicks that all of the younger guys think are so cool. "Scene" = generally not true race car drivers.

I should just stop replying here, as 11k isn't going to get you into the 10's in a 1/4 mile. Much less going to get you into a "rolling god". For your original goal of 250+ mph your going to have to have a helluva long custom transmission, not to mention all of the aerodynamic bodyparts to keep you from lifting off like a spaceshuttle anywhere near 200 mph.

Just so you know, a stock SOHC won't even go 170mph on it's gearing.

The bottom end on the D16y8 that you have in your car now isn't going to support anywhere near your HP goals. They start to give up around 250 whp.

Read this thread I made about getting whatever motor you want into your car.

Just remember what your dealing with here. This is a sub 15k economy car not designed to be a racecar. To attain anything near 600 whp your going to have to do quite a few things. I'd suggest sleeving the block, new shot peened rods/pistons, new head studs, all new bearings, and just about a whole new block.

One or more of those is going to be the only way you've got half a chance of making that kind of power.

You can upgrade to a better flowing intake manifold for sure. You can always get your intake piping (intercooler and it's piping) designed for the best flow in your operation. If you've not read Maximum Boost by Corky Bell I'll suggest that as a good precursor to any FI setups.

NOS is a brand, so no you can't "do" a brand. You can however run a nitrous setup (either as a fogger, a direct port or a fogger for your intercooler) along with a turbo. You can also do a supercharger/turbo setup, but I think that parts for just that are going to be greatly out of your 6k budget for this year.

Originally Posted by 2 wheeled hater

Essentially what nitrous does. Lowers intake temperatures and makes the air more dense.

AEM uses a K&N filter on their intakes (or they used to at least). You can't use a conventional cold air intake with a turbocharger. For some reason I'm beginning to doubt your "racing past" if you don't know how a simple turbocharger setup works.

Best brands for what?

All of these are all but useless. The interfooler (front mount cold air intake) is a decent enough idea but generally gets laughs everyime you see one. Your stock ignition is capable of supporting upwards of 400 whp. I don't even know what a Hyper ground or voltage system are honestly. Spark plug wires = waste of money as are iridium plugs IMHO.

Tilton twin disk can hold upwards of your hp goal but costs more than 1000 dollars. Remember, your goals are so high they're unrealistic, especially on your budget.

All of this stuff further leads me to believe that you don't know what your talking about. I'm sorry, but there is NO way your going to go 200+ mph with all of this junk in your car.

Good to see that you've taken your beatings and keep on going, but my lord man, you've got some of the most unrealistic goals I've ever seen in my entire life. I've put in more than 8k to handle my turbo setup, my minor fuel upgrades, my suspension, my rims/brakes and I can barely break into the 13s.

Your going to need a lot more than just gobs of power to go 250 mph.

LOL believe it or not despite your obvious doubt I appreciate your post.

Like I said new to the scene. Never liked the rice rocket types myslef. Your right when you say my lack of knowledge raises questions but like I said I've never raced cars before. Bikes are a bit different and I've never used nitrous on a bike before. I ride'em and race'em. And I "hold this" when marc builds them. I'm not really looking to impress someone but for me to enjoy this its gonna have to remind me a lot of my bike. Just how it goes. Those of you who ride know what I mean. I've hated cars since the very first day I rode a bike and this civic is my first car.

P.S. LOL to all who don't like my hippie disco ball interior bite me! I love it.

If I have to I'll rip the guts out of this car and mount a 440 magnum from a '68 charger in it. I have about 40k in bikes i can't ride anymore that I suppose I could part with but as far as not reaching my goals..............watch me.

The good thing about motorcycles is they are pretty much just the essentials and there are no limits.

I appreciate what dawn said. At least somone doesn't let limits hold them back. The only things that keep you from your goals are you.

As for what mongolian doughnuts had to say:

"Ricey, those qoutes he has are all from 2 fast 2 furious, maybe that motor cycle accident messed his head up a little or something."

I'm pretty sure the 1/4 mile one I got from torque which is a horrible representation of bikes. As for the others I just made them up. I'm sure they've been said but I'm almost positive none of them were said in 2 fast 2 stupid. Maybe the one race at a time one. But the 200mph club R.I.P. one I got from my Freind Ryan and the electrocuted was from marc.

Not many 13 year olds out there with 3 bikes and the inability to walk for the time being.

700hp civic that runs 6's with 9,000 watts in stereo items that cant be driven anywhere safely except the track where you will probably still die driving it and will blow up or not be recognizable as a vehicle and will destroy anyones ears within 3 miles: approximately 30k

hatch with d15b vtec and complete custom turbo kit some suspension and exhaust that runs 13s and is daily driven: approxamitely 6k
