Default Question abouting ordering a new motor

Alright well I blew my b18b1.... And right now i dont have the money to buy a GSR motor tranny and ecu so im just going to buy another b18b1 but im not too keen of junkyards and everywheres i look online has something to do with a shortblock or a long block.... ill admit it now im no genius with cars but im no idiot either... but mostly i want to know the differences between a shortblock and longblock.... and also when sites say the package comes with a b18b1 long block thats not just the bottom end is it? thx alot in advance too

I am pretty sure that a short block is the bottom end, and the longblock the whole motor.

I thought shortblock was just the block and head itself, long is with tranny and ecu and distrib and that stuff.

IM pretty sure a long block is the motor with no ecu or tranny.

Short block is most likely less than that so its probably just the block not too sure about short blocks. Maybe it doesnt come with manifolds or injectors.

The two terms were started back in the day with the V8 guys mostly. A short block most like will consist of the block and the head Ie no trans and probably no axles and even more probable no harnes a long block would be everything including a trany. you gonna have to clear it up 100% by calling the dealer with the engine your looking at. But thats the jist for long and short block. And even back in the day a short block may have had no head/s so just make sure your very clear on what they (the place you get your engine) constitute as a "short block" befor ordering.

Short block will just be the complete block. No head, manifolds etc..

Funny replies here. Short block= block, pistons, rods, crank, and in most cases oil pump, oil pan, and water pump. Long block= all that plus head(complete), cam(s) and in most cases valve cover.

I thought you were just tryin to be funny. If you were serious why don't you go look up what a long block is. Since obviously you don't believe a guy that sells them for a living.

This is correct, this is correct, and once more, this is correct. A long block does not include the tranny, so everybody can stop posting that it does.

Sometimes, you will see 'Complete swap' packages that come with long block + tranny, just look at hmotorsonline.

Yep, you can buy the motor as the shortblock, longblock, or complete changeover (or complete swap). This guys right and the completes come w/ everything from just the tranny to the tranny, axles, ecu, clutch, flywheel, etc. It all depends on the vendor. (like http://www.hmotorsonline.com). It's weird to see so many interpretations...
