Smaller steering wheel = faster steering response???

Is this true or am I wrong? Reason is I'm ordering my momo wheel today and Id like to know which one to go with. The 12.4" or the 13.5"?

 

yes its true..the smaller the wheel the better the response....but just don't go crazy small...

 

I had a 12.5" steering wheel in my '89 CRX Si. Turning the wheel at a dead stop sucks, but it builds up you arms and shoulders quite nicely.

And oh yeah, it will increase steering response.

 

Isnt bigger better? I know on my truck i have a big steering wheel and my neighbor has the same type of truck with a smaller wheel and i could steer so much better with my bigger wheel over his smaller wheel.

How would a smaller wheel improve responce?

 

the smaller the wheel...the less surface area to grab...a smaller wheel will also turn faster too.....I'm really bad in explaining it but it is true

It's easier to turn a bigger steering wheel since you have more leverage, but it takes more movement to achieve the same response.

 

ok think of it this way...

the steering wheel is just a gear

a smaller gear will go faster, but will take more torque to move... if u dont have power steering youll have a bitch of a time moving it...

a bigger steering wheel will be much easier to move, but will move slower... itll be less sensitive too.. so when u turn it u wont be all over the road

it all depends on what u want
a person with a smaller steering wheel wont be driving any better then one with a big one

 

I sorta agree with the guys, but the "response" I'm thinking of won't change.

I'm sure when you want to improve the response of your car, you're talking about "turn-in"...how quickly and easily the car turns in response to your steering input.

Well, changing the size of the steering wheel only changes the steering input you need to do. It won't make your car turn any better or quicker. The main thing a smaller steering wheel changes is the SIZE of your steering input. You will still need to turn the steering wheel the same ANGLE.

Changing the size of your steering wheel won't a significant different, IMO. You can still rotate your steering wheel 45 degrees just about as fast whether you have a stock steering wheel or one that's a bit smaller.

If you want to change the car's response, play with other parts of the car like toeing OUT front tires a bit (0 toe), grippier/stiffer front tires, stiffer shocks.
