El Nino is coming!!
OKay so supposedly, El Nino is coming back to Socal. I have an AEM CAI and I don't have a water bypass. should I buy a short ram and swap it out for the winter, or get a bypass? Thanks
Socal people and rain...lol How often does it typically rain there? I know my roommates' wiper blades rotted after living in Huntington Beach for a year. I wouldn't worry about the water unless you plan on driving through water that's up to your filter. You can probably order a bypass from aem and just cut your cai pipe and splice it in. I've got an APC short-ram you could throw on and off pretty easily. IM me if you want it, its just laying around my garage.

The bypass isnt fool proof, water still can reach the engine through it.
I do have an AEM short ram on my R if you wanna trade.

if you are coming up on a big puddle put the car in nuetral and coast through it, or just shut if off ... then fire it up again once you pass the lake that your driving through

Thats exactly the point, it doesnt rain often, and when it does... in many areas the drains suck because they are clogged or too small.
Flash flood.
Most of cali does okay though, but a few parts are just going to flood.

Don't be a tease.
I'd totaly love for El Nino to return, for the snowfall in the mountains of course. But it doesn't look promising. The same weather forecasters that predicted the return just refuted their earlier statement. So, you can rest easy.

OMG! Put your stock intake on NOW!!!
Man, seriously, just drive it...hydrolock is blown WAY out of proportion...you'd have to drive through a very deep (read, errr, over a foot deep) to hydrolock and....
Why even waste my breath....you're going to hydrolock your car, don't buy a CAI, buy into the hype of hydrolock...*sigh*

It was as tuned as it could get with just a VAFC. Just wait until you see the new setup!

People can scoff at Hydrolocking, but I have seen it firsthand in Southern California. Bent rods, holes in blocks, it does happen.
I cut my CAI and made it a shortram for when it rains. Then I use a rubber coupler and two big clamps to join the pieces and use it as a CAI when it's dry (95% of the time).

hmmm this is wierd. Do people like floor it through puddles or what?
as long u stay off the gas and aren't completely submerged then your fine. just driving in the rain is fine. Ive done it for a year+ now...

Well considering this is my daily driver, I really don't have a choice about not driving it. second I think I'll get a short ram since it is safer than the bypass. and I've heard very bad stories about the engine seisure not to do anything about it.
