Default Integra Type R Modifications

Hello everybody, i have a few questions about Integra Type R mods.
I have installed yesterday a Vision Racing Converter, and it works great, car feels better and it is not so loud.
Now, today i changed my thermo stat and thermo switch for Spoon ones, and my car is now running half the temperature it used to run normally. How does this affect to the engine? Is it good or bad? I know it is going to burn more fuel, but what else, anything good and bad??

um, i dont konw what planet you're from, but low temp in an engine is good. as long as the water cooling the engine isnt frozen solid, and the gasoline isnt frozen solid (which is hard to do), you're good, in fact you should see more performance running lower temp b/c friction is reduced. on and one more thing, just to clear it up, things running at colder temps is good as long is anything w/ water dosnt freeze

Huh?

1/2 normal operating temp.? I'd be surprised if your Vtec was still working.

I think you are absolutely incorrect. There is an optimal operating tempature.

Ever wonder why trucks in the winter cover up their radiators?

You want to have your temperature close to a tick before 1/2 on the gauge. Your internals are gapped and the tolerances are spaced with the assumption of a certain temperature range. If the temperature is too cold or too hot, the metal has not reached the ideal expansion and you could do harm.

From what I've heard, it is not ideal to have both a low temp thermostat, and switch, but only one or the other. Try taking one off, and see if that balances out your temps.

I have to ask though, what is the reason behind the installation of those parts? Have you experienced any overheating? I've been running a 80/20 water/coolant mixture with OEM thermo and switch with stock radiator and even after 1hr on the track, my temps are perfect.

I"ve always been told you have to have a common temp for a good running engine. Eash car is a little different. WIth the ITR I've noticed that is just a little less than half. I would take back the spoon stuff you bought...

i would be less worried with water temp than i would be with oil temp.

The T stat and switch were designed from a standpoint of being in Japan IE butt *** cold much of the time

Actual water temps during normal operation are around 185 ish depending on altitude outside temps and driving style ect

The spoon tstat and switch will normally lower it to nearer 170 ish not a huge drop but should you put in a few heavy laps at a road course you will see the benefit of these as water temps can easily exceed 220

so keep them and stop assuming that your water temp is jacuzzi livable 95 ish.

"what I've heard, it is not ideal to have both a low temp thermostat, and switch, but only one or the other" the switch opperates only the fan many people wire the fan for always on with zero problems

Technically you would want to run the car as hot as possible to increase combustion efficiency which is why cars like the Cavalier ect run a 195 degree water temp. But running a cooler temp is just a level of security for running the engine hard when reliabilty rather than peak power is called for

Thanks, after driving a few hours, traffic, highway and everyday driving, my temp is not so low as i thought. Just a little bit colder than normal, so i believe its good, thanx for ur advice, i wont take any of them, my original thermo stat was a little bit tricky, once, after hard driving, i noticed a little overheating so i stopped immediately.
Car feels really good, i cant say its faster or anything like that, its just the kind of difference you would notice after maintenance.

I've got these parts on my engine too. Sitting in traffic the temp stays slightly lower and the fan comes on a lot more. When I am cruising, however, I notice the temp gauge is about 1/4 - 1/3 on the gauge. Where does the ITR normally run while cruising at, say...55+ mph for a few minutes?
