For quite some time people speculated/imagined/assumed the Mugen valve cover was Mg. because it retails for something around 800-900... People have since then confirmed it's pricey only because it's a Mugen part.
A real Mg valve cover would be 1/2 or maybe about 1/3 weight of the al. Would you buy a Mg. valve cover?
Pricey depends on volume and to cast Mg. requires a large tooling cost up front. Does this item need to be produced in limited numbers?! Or does the fact that it is an exotic material make it special already?
EDIT:
keep it under $300 ; mass produce it and share it with everyone
keep it under $600 ; limit the production to keep it special
keep it under $900 ; very limited batch and reserve it for tha true stunna's
thanks to all who have voted for your input. note i put this topic in the appearance/cosmetic forum. if we were to develop forged suspension compoents it would be a bigger under taking with a different target audience... keep the votes coming thank you.

saving weight on a valve cover is a bit silly.. valve cover does nothing. Put the r&d into front lca's, trailing arms, subframe bars, rad support... i mean.. stuff that matters..

magnesium....forged ALLOY
you'd need such a high heat to ignite the magnesium in these wheels you'd melt other non-magnesium wheels first.

If you're worried about it catching on fire, don't.
Magnesium in small parts, i.e. shavings are easily lighted. However, a solid ingot of magnesium, i.e. valve cover is stable and safe.

hehe.. its just a dumb idear.. put the r&d twords actual weight savings, and usefull stuff... a valve cover is a valve cover.
Forged Mag rims are commonly sold for motorcycles but are generally specified for race use only - I think maybe they dent easier than forged aluminum.
Anyway I would buy a lightweight mag VC for 400 or less. Bare mag is a cool color just clearcoat it. And no lettering.

I have a Mugen valve cover and it's never caught on fire.
edit: reading owns me, Mugen = not magnesium but rather made from a metal called Unobtainium.

Front LCAs and trailing arms - when is someone gonna do this!? I know Competition Engineering has front LCAs but they're drag only (they told me not to go around corners w/them) and have no swaybar mounts. Radiator support would be sick too, and not real hard. ****, maybe its time to go see my fab guy...

**** if ur that concerned about weight. just drag your car naked. all the clothes and shoes gotta add up to at least 5-6lbs. dont forget to drop off the kids b4 u go to the track to..lol
A valve cover like that is not going to sell unless its got some big brand name on it(mugen, spoon, JUN, etc).
People arent going to spend $300-$900 for the 2lbs weight savings alone.
