R as a daily driver????
-Ok fellas..here is my point. What is the point of having a car that just demands to be driven (sometimes hard) only to just drive it once in a while to save miles. No bust on you bro (fuminsho) but unlike my brother who drives his R as little as possible, my R is my daily transportation. I just don't see the point in having a car that just sits around while you are making payments on it. YES it is a rare car and YES low miles keeps the value but COME ON..we are talking about saving miles for resell value and I for one am not looking at trading in or reselling my R. It is a keeper! Does anyone else feel the same way? I bought my car to enjoy!! not to look at and dust.

I loved my R, drove it everywhere. Even into NYC sometimes where it eventually met its demise. Nonetheless as a daily driver it does everything I wanted it to do above and beyond all my expectations.
3 months with my R, 8k miles on the clock. (I average 25k miles a year)

I bought mine to drive and that's what I plan to do with it. My only regret is that I don't have a proper place to store it since I live in an apartment. 27,000mi in 10 months and counting.
I want my car to last for years to come, it is a daily driver but I drive it very little and when there is much snow or heavy weather I can drive another car
My thoughts exactly!!!
The ITR was supposed to be my weekend "fun" car, but that never happened. It turned into a daily driver the moment it left the dealership. My Land Bruiser sat so long w/o getting driven, the tires turned square!
yoshi - who now drives the 'bruiser around the block once a month

I see your point, and I agree. My R was my daily driver, but sitting in bumper-to-bumper traffic twice a day in the R was not my idea of enjoying the car or driving it for fun. I now take public transportation most of the time...

Depending on where you live, having an R as a daily driver is not always an option. Leaving you R parked in a shopping mall or cinema parking lot is just asking for trouble in California, for example. I have had mine for almost two years and during that time it was parked overnight on the street about ten times - not a lot but enough to get it egged with some minor paint damage.
If you treat your R like a normal daily driver, you are quite likley to lose it. A *lot* of people on this board (and people who used to be on this board) have discovered this the hard way.

Mine is a daily driver...
The more I drive it the more I want to drive it the more I drive it... aaah, it feels good. Every month I make a payment, I definately feel like I my getting my money's worth. I'm sure people who "weekend only" their ITR must feel the same.. I mean if it is your weekend car, you're more likely to engage in ONLY high-intensity driving as opposed to "run to the store and get a quart of milk" type runs. However, I find driving anything else is a chore and almost like punishment compared to driving the ITR - I can't conceive of having a daily driver that was a dull and boring car like (for instance) a Volvo (you know who you are -
). The weekend only model is like living in a dumpster Monday through Friday and spending weekends at some posh Hotel.
I'd rather have my ITR all the time - even if it only gets to stretch its legs every now and again... and I spend a time in bumper-to-bumper or whatever.
But, to each his own. My 98 has 41k on the clock ~ it had 32k in July. I seem to be driving MORE since I moved to CA, despite only living 4 miles from work.
It's not WRONG to have an ITR relegated to weekend only duties. But then again it's not WRONG to have an ITR as a trailer queen show car, either.

I posted something similar to this about 2 months ago. I love driving my R. It's my daily driver. I agree with you, and find no point in buying a car, just to let it sit around.
I drive 45 miles to work and back. I don't want to put empty miles on the car when I don't have to. I'd rather use the miles on weekend trips and out having fun, not sitting in rush hour traffic. I also don't want to give those idiots a chance to run into it. I've been hit in my MR2 a few times. I'm probably going to be moving closer to work sometime next year, and with a few mile commute, I plan to drive the R and get rid of the MR2.
My R is my daily driver as well. I bought it to enjoy it and hopefully I can do just that. I may have to find alternate transportation during heavy snow though
It is true that you have to be careful where you park though. My R never sees a shopping mall or movie theater and if I go to dinner I sit where I can see it. Too many haters

I agree an ITR in the Bay Area attracts too much attention from people I don't want to know.
Most of the daily drivers in the Bay Area have the car vandelized, stolen, wrecked. I bought the car for a fun car to drive, & driving in morning traffic to work is not fun, so why put the miles on the R? I have an 85 Toyota truck that gets more respect in traffic. I use the R for the track/Autox/ Weekend drives.
This is a long term car for me so I want to keep the miles low, I have the rest of my life to drive it. Yes it's a luxary but that's what I bought it for.
1 yr 5 months only 10K miles.

I use it pretty much as a daily driver in the summer, except for the fact that I work 60 miles a way, (120 round trip) a day. So I use my beater for work, and come home, throw the V1 in the R and I'm good to go.
So even though they're mostly highway miles, I'd rather put them on my beater. But around town & other road trips, ITR baby.
I put 6400 miles on the ITR during spring break two years ago

Well, people can do what they want to with *their* car. Be it a Ferrari, Yugo, or ITR.
I choose to NOT daily drive my ITR. I want to keep the car in great condition. Yes, I AutoX it regularly, and also hop on the roadcourse when possible as well. Believe me...my '00 ITR has 9962 *hard* earned miles. I'm not driving my car through the **** winters we have here in Nebraska especially.
They lay a TON of gravel, salt, and they chlorine the streets. Not to mention all the unsuspecting potholes you cannot avoid in some cases. With that said...and OTHER reasons I don't daily drive my ITR (besides weather related) include:
- Too much vandalism/theft against the ITR
- Greater chances of car accidents/door dings, etc
I don't daily drive my ITR, but I *DO* race my ITR. There are a lot of ITR owners that daily drive their ITR, but WON'T race theirs.
Different strokes for different folks I guess.

I use my Integra as a daily driver too *shrug*. It's just an Integra. On the otherhand, I'm sure there were folks who, back in the day, used their new Shelby GT350's as daily drivers too.

My ITR never ceases to give me a BIG
every time I take it out and it is a complete waste of $$$ and FUN, to have it sitting in the garage until the weekend
like some others (but it is their choice)!!My ITR is just under '2 years young' and I've had the pleasure of driving it - on the ROAD and TRACK - over 91,100 kms - 56,600 miles
- averaging around 2570 miles/month!! It still revs and drives, just as it did when I first got it (after it was 'run in' of course) and I don't give a sh*t about devaluing it; as I plan to keep it as a 'track only' car in the future, when I purchase a new car.
to my fellow 'real' ITR drivers![Modified by Aussie_ITR-0239, 7:45 AM 12/7/2001]
