fellas, need your help quick. my dad is helping me out on picking up an AP rollbar for my itr across town, and all he has to transport with is his 2001 VW New Beetle. to fellow owners with an AP, in your opinion, WILL IT FIT?????? i hate buggin my pop, but i cant pick it up myself, and i'd hate for him to have to return empty-handed because of the bar not going in.
i know its going to be all a matter of opinion, but thats enough to help me out as i've never owned an AP and i'm not sure how tall the main hoop is...the bar is gonna be collapsed obviously, but i'm hoping someone out there with an AP has made a similar transport with a small compact car similar in size to the beetle.
any positive feedback is appreciated. i'd pick it up myself with my own R but its impossible. im in another state.

arnold, i'm not sure how much or how little time you have. but check out these guys for some details on the bar:

i would call them up. i'm sure they'd be helpful in giving you approximate dimensions of the packaged bar. i'm not sure if the place you're getting the bar from packages them differently. i would think they're the same. give them a call. i hear from austin that they are really nice up there.
good luck getting the bar in the bEEtle!
kepani-who will be gettting one soon as well.

fellas-thanks for the quick answers. kepani, i actually was looking thru the ioport website just a few minutes ago
, but they're already closed by now...i'll try tomorrow if they're open. thanks bud.
i'm picking it up from a private seller, so he's gonna help my dad try and wedge the thing in
...after thinking about it for a while, it might not go in like cargo, meaning sidewards in the back seat, BUT, if my dad actually places the bar in the same orientation that i will be installing, meaning standing up behind the front seats, it might fit okay enought to take home
the beetle has a high roofline, so thats not the problem, i just hope its as wide or wider inside than my R.....
should be okay i think..?

it wont fit in your beetle. that thing is very small inside...
why even entertain the thought? now, if you stripped the beetle and dont care about destroying the interior metal of the beetle, im sure you could wedge it in.
if you can fit that thing in a beetle, i'll spoon RJ's ***.

i HIGHLY doubt that the beetle is as wide as the ITR so the ap rollbar will fit.
i do recommend, if you're going to attempt, to take out the front + rear seats and get it in that way. instead of using the beetle's width, use her length.

i'm asking opinions about fitment, not opinions on what method i'm trying to do this...i repeat, I HAVE NO CHOICE. my dad is being cool enough to help me save a buttload on shipping by going out of his way to do this. all he has is his car. if you wanna give me the money to ship, then i'll save the beetle for another day. your response is really going off on a tangent to what i'm asking, so we'll see if you'll be spooning someone's *** in a few couple days.
PS-lots of people think the beetle is a tiny cup inside. sit inside one nextime and you'll be surprised

since the ap rollbar is decide for your car I say it have a better chance to fit into your aRR than your dad's beetle. Last month when my brother go pick up the ap bar for his rx-7.....we used a stationwagon cause it has a more square type space.
i can't say the beetle have no chance to fit the rollbar in but the biggest problem is the upperbar on the whole thing. good luck

you can fit it, I bet. those cars have more space in them than what appears.
Just remove the rear bars from the hoop and lay the width of the bar longways in the car. folding down the seats is a must. If you do that, I bet you could fit it in there without much trouble.
Jay- who hopes people weren't thinking about moving the bar w/rear bars attached to hoop

the eg huh...thats a tight fit
anyway, my dad is going up tonight, i'll update this for the curious. and for those still thinking that the beetle is too small? i got inside one today, took some measurements from the back seat and pretended to have the rollbar installed. then, i jumped into the backseat of the R...funny thing guys, the R felt CRAMPED compared to the bug
the bug beat out my R by atleast 1.5 to 2 inches in the interior measurements i took between the two. so with that finding, i'm pretty sure the ap bar will fit inside the beetle comfortably if my dad places it inside the way i'll be installing it in the R. wish i could ask him to take pics, but i dont wanna bother the old man anymore than i have to
will know for sure soon
