Stripping
Sorry fella's, no real stripers here :-P So i'm working on my car with a friend last night, from midnight to 3:30 AM so that I can get my alt. off for my new one, which is comming in today mind you, and I get the top bolt off, and start working on the bottom one, get the right socket and all 14mm and what do you know, it strips, so i'm now at a loss of what to do, I have a striped bolt, and new alt comming in today, and i've been without my EF for about a month now *insert tear here*
HELP ME!!!
HELP ME!!!
You got a couple options actually. I would take a 13 or 12 mm socket a big extention and a Big ******* Hammer and hit the extention and socket over the bolt this should allow you to get the bolt free. But first buy some pb blaster. Not another product but pb blaster and shoot the bolt like two or three times. Otherwise you could drill the bolt and possibly **** up the threads that the bolt bolts into. Or you could try going to go to sears I think they have a stripped bolt remover? Not sure.
I would take the BFH and a socket far easier and less expensive.
Have fun

you'll have to hammer that on the stripped bolt as well. the complete kit is about $50.

Ok, tried the BFH idear, but that just made it worse, now you guys know what bolt i'm talking about right? its the one thats UNDER the car, the car is jacked up right now in my driveway, striped bolt and all, and i'm just soooo mad at my car right now, I have no way to get any cut off tools because no one I know has them, I could do it at school, but I don't feel like waiting another month untill my car is running again, and I have bassicly no money at all, I could get a couple of bucks and all for something, but not much. Now what if I took a hack saw to it? would that work ya think? instead of using a actuall cut off tool?
Alright, i'll ask around and see if I can find one, thanks for the help!
*edit* I'll take some pics of where the bolt is and everything right now, maybe that can help a bit

Man - go to Sears. The bolt-outs are bad ***. Atleast go there and look at them.
They fit over the head and dig into what's left.

i second the bolt out idea... for 20 bucks you can't beat them... once they start biting either that bolt is coming out or something is breaking, but usually the bolt just backs right out...
Ok guys, at a loss again, non of that stuff worked, with the BFH, and right now I don't have the money to go out and get the stripped bolt remover, and I know of no one with a torch, to heat it up, or any sort of cut off tool, if anyone knows of any genius ideas of how to get the lower nut off the alt. let me know ASAP!!!

Hey, still can't get the frickin bolt off! god i'm mad at my car right now, if anyone lives in or around BayCity Michigan, you should come to my house and help me!!!
Get a 14mm 6 point socket and try it again.
If not. get a 13mm 6 point socket and hammer that suck in.. and lossen it.
Tight the bolt a little to lossen the grips and then take it up.
Did you used a 14mm 6 point socket?
Spray some w-40 on it.

I used the W-D40, and the 14 mm 6 point socket, got my BFH and got it on there a bit, although I never tried to tighten it then loosen it, so i'll go back out and try it that way again, god its hard to do this in such a small space *shrug*
Hey guys, bolt is still there, got a small propane type torch to try and heat up the bolt to take it off, no such luck, it isn't hot enough to take it off, i'm at a loss here people, if ANYONE lives in the BayCity Midland area up in Michigan, you should get your butt out to my place and help me out! I got no money, or any real tools, got standard 150 peice wrench/socket set, but thats it. . . .HELP ME!!!!
If the head is stripped, try using a 9/16 or 1/2 socket it may grip more than the metric size. Just a thought, also if you try vicegrip try to use the square jawed ones they grap better and slip less.
Good luck

Just remove the entire lower alt braket from the block and take alt and all out. That way it should be easier to work on the stripped bolt. If you still can't get it, just take a quick trip to the junk yard and get a new bracket.
