rev limteder moves?

hey i was just wanting to know if this is common or if my car is just odd i have a dohc zc with headers, cold air intake, cat. back exhaults, amd the 88-89 ls teg ecu i am almost 100% sure that it redlines at 7500 and on my car it move some time i hit it at 7500 but tonight for the frist time i took it to 7900 or 8000 and my tach is right cuz i hooked up a autometer tach to check it its dead on
what makes my car hit rev a 500 more than it should?

when i had my stock motor in my hatch it would sometimes go to 8k in the burnout box. but then second gear would always hit rev limiter early. *shrugs*
