Default What octane should I be running? Just making sure...

Just recently built up my engine with some Type-S pistons and high compression valves to bump the compression up a bit. Now I'm wondering what octane I should be using. Is 91 OK to use? I'll usually end up using 93 if I can find it, but sometimes 93 is hard to come by.

I ask because I used some Shell V-Power tonight and I have no idea what octane it is. I assume it's 93, but I am hoping that it isn't lower and that I don't blow my engine or something.

i use 91 around here cuz its the highest we have besides a pump that puts out race gas, but im not a baller so i cant afford that. lol but try and use at least 93 id say cuz on the gauge cluster it says premium unleaded only and on the gas cap and its just better for the car

91+, I always use 93, if you want you can dump Berrymans octane booster in each tank, like +3 oct for 3-6 bux extra per tank.

Yeah, I guess if that is racing level fuel that it should be fine. The thing that worried me was the fact that there was no octane indicator on the pump itself, it just said "premium V-Power" or some ****.

The only reason I went there in the first place was due to the gas shortage in FL. Everyone is stocking up on gas before the hurricane, and that was the only place I could find that still had premium.

lol...sorry to hear of your struggle to find 93, here 7-11 has it, i haven't found one yet that doesnt have 93...although oddly enough i think i recall seeing one that 93 and 87, nothing in between

good luck with the hurricane man - this one seems serious...

i've just realized i jinxed myself now..next time i go to fill up - it will probably be at station with everything but 93, oh well, at least i'll know the v-power is safe

Plenty of places had the premium, they just ran out. I went to this place as a last resort. I usually gas up at 7-11, too.

Mine runs best when its fed on premium 98oct. Which is 'Shell Optimax'.
Shell V-Power is just the re-brand of the Optimax name but not as potent apparently. Its not a racing fuel its just a premium pump gas.

We get Optimax Onpump here (England) at shell stations, but 95 is the best you can get at most places. BP used to have BP-Premium 99oct. That stuff was like rocket fuel but they stopped making it because of lackof interest!

And you think Europe gets good fuel, In Japan they have 100oct Ron as standard and 104/105oct premium! Why do you think that japanese motors run higher compression and more aggressive ignition timing as standard?!

well, i would try to run atleast 91+ just like what everyone has said and i would go higher if i could, but i live in stupid california and they have crazy emission laws...who cares if we deplete the ozone layer..its most likely not going to happen in our life..let our kids deal with it

i always run 93...BP always has it as well as Texaco (i live in NC)

also forget about emissions...garbage, scientists came to find that our "pollutive acts" have nothing to do with the greenhouse effect and have very, very, very minimal affect on the ozone...this came out after kerry's wife put 4 million in a lawsuit against some factory to, LOL...
