I got into my first accident today and it was my fault. I have making a left onto the highway and there was a van making a right onto the street I was pulling out from. I pulled out, and to my surprise there was an Avalon in the other lane that was blocked by the van. So, my driver side quarterpanel is gone, my rear bumper ripped off, my suspension/frame is gone, rim is bent, and I'm emotionally sad.
I don't think the car is totalled, but that's up to the claim adjuster tomorrow. I don't want the car anymore since it so hard to keep nice. I want to see if I can buy the car back from the insurance company if it's totalled so I can swap the motor into a hatch. Then I'll just part out the car. I'm pretty sure someone would want the interior, the EP3 wheel, and other things.
What is ironic is that I finally got my GReddy lip that I was waiting for today that took more than month to get. Anybody want a brand new lip?

Hey don't feel to bad. I got into my first accident last week. clipped another car, I was real depressed. My front bumper was f@cked up, cracked my pass headlight, and bent in the pass quarter, and hood. But i got my issurance claim and now im doing all the work myself and have a ROJA body kit, JDM lights and ViS invador carbon fiber hood. so i actually came out ahead.
Hope your situtation works out for you. Sorry about the wreck.

Alright, the adjuster came. I have basically two decisions. Help me out guys!
Choice #1: Have the insurance company pay for the damages. I would have to buy a new rim and probably a full coilover system. I got a lip that needs to be put on, so that is going to cost extra. I will always know that the car was in an accident, and so will carfax. But I will get the drive the car again. BTW, the estimated damages for a little over $8,100.
Choice #2: Have the insurance company pay off my loan and keep the car the way it is. My loan balance is $10,800. I can either fix the car using my own money, which I don't have lots of. So repairing the car won't be immediate. Or I can try (when I mean try, I do mean TRY) to find a 1999-2000 stock Hatch to swap the parts over. I can swap the motor over and some interior parts. However, I don't have money to buy a hatch, I would probably need another loan for that. Then I estimate another $2000-3000 for the swap. This could take a lot longer than I want.
I'm in a pickle now. My parents are suggesting to go with choice #2, but I love my DC5 so much. All the parts and time put into the car and I won't get to enjoy them anymore.

if a car has been in 8k damage, i wouldn't fix it up just for that very fact
8k is just under half the value of the car

I would get it fixed then decide if you want to keep it or sell it. Sure it'll be nice to have them pay off the car for you but then you will still have about 14k(assuming you paid 24k) in a crashed type-S. You would still have to dish out money for a chassis and pay for labor of the swap. You're better off just selling the car when fixed, then buy a type-S swap and start fresh.
You can always have the insurance company cut you a check for repairs and then sell the car AS IS to somebody else in the classifieds/rebuildable section in your local paper.

Is the insurance company really giving you a choice? Mine didn't and went ahead to fix my '02 RSX-S for about $9500. I wish I had a choice b/c they were saying their retail bluebook was $17900 and I only owe $11000. Do dealers check carfax when you trade in your car?

My parents talked to the insurance company. I think they said they can negotiate with the insurance company to payoff my loan. I think I am going to repair my car. If I like it, I can keep it and making my payments like before. If I don't like it, I'll sell it and payoff my loan with pocket money.
