HID Pros... i need ur help!!!
my 6000k philips HID bulbs came today
ok... so i open them up and goto swap out my 4120k bulbs.... the 6000k blub doesnt fit in the socket right... it has a rounded edge and the 4120k bulbs have 3 edges sticking out to fit in the socket... pics...
as you can see... the 4120k bulbs fit in the socket and the 6000k bulbs dont
the i ordered D2S bulbs, which is suppose to fit the projector headlight assembly of the DC2, so i know i didnt order the wrong bulbs... so how do i make em fit?

you ordered a pair of wrong bulbs.D2S is D2S which is for factory real HID
for example: S2000, BMW.... they all use the same D2S bulb for their projector head light.
and i think for yours should be just the HID converstion kit for a 9006 headlight. so you should get the 6000k 9006 hid bulb instead of the one you order which is a factory D2S hid replacement.
They dont fit because they aren't 9006 Retrofitted, Meaning that the 4300K ones you have have those ridges which lock into the 9006 bulbs opening on the headlight. The 6000K ones are the type of bulb found in a car that comes with HID (its a standard size) Call whoever you bought the kit from see if they will switch out the bulbs for you or send you the correct package. You have to specify that you want a retrofit 9006 kit.
ditto on what everyone said. The bulbs you have are the style for OEM HID headlight housings. You needs the D2S bulb with the 9006 base on it. That other bulb you showing (assuming its your old HID bulb) is the wrong HID bulb. That old bulb you have is a D2R bulb which is for non-projector headlights. You probally knew that which is why you got the 6000ks.
Anyway just send them back for the 9006 6000k bulbs.
Oh yeah, on a side note here's a new HID setup that I just got for our M3 (4300k):

HID's are in a whole other ball park when compairing them to hyper white lights.
Just take a test ride in a new car that has HID's and you will know what I mean.

oic..... i guess that makes sense.... (damnit), however i have a JDM conversion on the way with the HID headlights but without the hid kit that comes with it..., should i keep these bulbs? will they fit in the HID headlight assembly?
damn u guys rely quick!
and yeah i knew i got D2R bulbs and i knew they were the wrong ones, which is another reason i went for the 6000k bulbs

yeah I got the kit going. I might be selling it though. We might buy the Euro headlights which use a H1 headlight with projectors, so this kit wont work. I'll probally know by tomorow if I'm gonna sell this kit. Its brand new, with new bulbs, etc...
yes those bulbs will fit in the OEM HID headlights. But what do you mean by saying "way with the HID headlights but without the hid kit that comes with it"
Do you mean you have a JDM kit coming with OEM HID headlight housings, but without the OEM ballest? If so, the bulbs will still work, but you need to get a ballest set.
If you mean that your getting a JDM front with NON-OEM HID headlights, but with a aftermarket HID kit, then these bulbs will not work because the NON-OEM HID headlights need 9006 style bulbs.

yes, im getting OEM HID headlight housing, but without the HID set that comes attached to the headlights
and why do i need the OEM ballest? i cant just put my philips kit on there?
BTW, even though i have the wrong kind of bulbs on there right now (D2R), they still light up really bright.... what is effected by using the D2R bulbs instead of the D2S bulbs?

yeah but once you see the difference, the 400 or so cost for the HID's vs. hyper whites is worth it IMO. If you want the best vison, etc... then HID's are worth it. But if you just want the cool look that they give, then I would just get some Razo hyper whites.
No one can tell you if they are worth it, because its different for each person. Someone might say spending $10,000 on 26" rims is worth it, where as someone might say $1000 is worth it for a good seat, etc...
Its just a matter of each person's opinion, which is why I said to go ride in a car with HID's and see the difference yourself, then you can figure if the cost is worth it.

no, you don't need OEM ballest. Any ballest will work. However you will need to work on a way to seal the 4-5" circle opening behind the headlights where the OEM HID's use to connect to them. The opening is similar to the opening to access the high beam compartment. However that lid will not work with this opening.
With the opening the headlights will fog up a lot. Taping the opening or somehow sealing it will work fine.
Their is more HUGE difference if you use the D2R bulbs in a D2S headlight. The only real difference's is a slight change in beam pattern which isn' that big of a deal since it is just a aftermarket add-on kit. Also that band that wraps around the bulb just cuts some of the light out to make them less intense.
